Reuters: Islamic State's stronghold Tal Afar about to fall: Iraqi military
TAL AFAR, Iraq (Reuters) - Iraqi forces are about to take full control of Tal Afar, Islamic State’s stronghold in northwestern Iraq, in a swift campaign against the outnumbered, exhausted militants, an Iraqi military spokesman said on Saturday.
The quick collapse of Islamic State in Tal Afar, a breeding ground for jihadist groups in Iraq, confirmed Iraqi military reports that the militants lack command and control structures in the areas west of Mosul.
Up to 2,000 militants were believed to be defending Tal Afar when the U.S.-backed campaign to take back the city started on Aug. 20. The attacking forces were estimated at 50,000, according to western military sources.
“Tal Afar city is about to fall completely into the hands of our forces, only five percent remains” under Islamic State’s control, a military spokesman told Reuters.

This maybe premature.
It seems quick work.
Tal Afar is smaller.
unless ISIS ahs some devastating riposte is Tel Afar, I think it is done in Iraq with Syria soon to follow.
I am not saying that the fighting is over soon in Syria, just that ISIS is over there.
Meanwhile ISIS raised its head in SE Asia. It will be brutal. I wonder if America will care or notice except for 'journalist' gushing about the latest atrocity with bated breath?
Aizino,
ISIS is making some fairly big noise around Tal Afar, whether it's a death rattle or not we'll see. There are reports that armored elements of the "Tiger Division" got a bloody nose. If was a matter carelessness by good troops or a sign of organic problems with the Tiger division we'll know pretty quick.
James,
Wow, You posted twice on one story. Time for me to sit back and just watch how events unfold.
Aizino,
I wouldn't put too much credence in what I say, I'm usually wrong and in this case there is a very good chance that it is I who has misread the situation.
James I learned a good response from a marketing expert during a presentation. He was rebuffed by someone in the audience, responded to the rebuff and re-gained control of the crowd with "Of course you have to remember, anything I say can be refuted with logic."
