The Telegraph: Exclusive: North Korea 'secretly helped by Iran to gain nuclear weapons', British officials fear
North Korea’s sudden advancement in developing nuclear weapons may be due to secret support from Iran, British officials fear.
The Foreign Office is investigating whether “current and former nuclear states” helped Kim Jong-Un in his drive to mount nuclear warheads on missiles.
Senior Whitehall sources told The Sunday Telegraph it is not credible that North Korean scientists alone brought about the technological advances.
Iran is top of the list of countries suspected of giving some form of assistance, while Russia is also in the spotlight.

WNU Editor: Is Iran knowledgeable in building a nuclear device with this type of explosive power .... North Korean nuke test put at 160 kilotons as Ishiba urges debate on deploying U.S. atomic bombs (Japan Times/AFP). I doubt it. Is Russia behind North Korea's nuclear program? I would be shocked if they were. So the question then begs itself .... is someone helping North Korea in its nuke program, and if so, who? The British believe that it is Iran or Russia. Everyone else on this issue is keeping quiet.

WNU, you mentioned a few days ago that Ukraine could possibly be the source of the information leading to the accelerated progress NK has shown the last two years. Also there are the reports of Ukrainian rocket engines being sold to NK.
I also believe that there's a straight line between Iran and NK. A line that funnels millions in cold cash between them.
Supporting Ukraine in tbeir fight against Russia was the stupidest move ever made by a major world power. I said so at the time. While I knew this move was atupid at the time, it's proven evem stupider than I initially thought.
POTUS wanted to make peace with the Russians. POTUS was wise. Unfortunately that careful effort was shot to hell by certain petty fools. Had the efforts of POTUS succeeded we wouldn't be having the problems we are currently having with North Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, or a number of countries we are having now. Now we have these problems. Trying to make our way in a world where the most powerful forces on earth oppose us is most v problematic. If Russia and China avtually supported us, this would be much less problematic.
I would neither be shocked nor surprised if it was Russia. But I doubt it.
Putin, while many portray him as a mastermind - always winning - actually on paper doesn't have much to show for. Russia is not winning at the moment. Its economy is the size of Italy! Russia mostly wins because of PR stunts, amplified by Western Media hype (it sells). And, aside from political assassinations of his enemies, he hasn't really outright attacked NATO. This would be seen as a major escalation, with too little for him to win to risk it. No, I don't see Russia doing this.
There is only one nation that not only can, but has influenced and still influences the path of North Korea, and that is China.
No other nation has as much to win from a strengthened North Korea as China does. No other nation has and still is trading with North Korea as much as China has and does. And, we know China sold the mobile missile launchers to North Korea - that's what we do know. And, China not only backed North Korea long enough in front of the UN, but also asked Trump to give them "100 days" - during which North Korea's missile program evolved ever faster. Coincidence much?
Now, why would China not only benefit, but is already benefiting? Look at it. the US and its allies are much more cautious in their manouvering in APAC now with North Korea constantly, and more and more credibly, being able to threaten the coalition. And - best of all, China is telling everyone (the US mostly) that they will not accept a first strike. i.e. despite that North Korea threatens nuclear war for more than a year now, China says "no, you cannot do anything militarily, and even sanctions are not really ok with us".
And Iran - maybe, but I don't see them meddling in APAC. I would not be surprised if they occasionally sell a few technological secrets, maybe even building blocks, but not in a concerted, governmental backed, and all-out fashion like China does.
I am sure in the years to come we will find out more and more of what China sold to North Korea - aside from the mobile missile launchers (which all but made a first strike impossible to the US, as they would never be able to reliably get them all this way).
Doesn't take a genius to see the China/North Korea connection.
Military - check
Financial/Economics protection and trading - check
Political protection in front of UN and blocking of most sanctions - check
