German Chancellor Angela Merkel Wins Re-Election, But German Nationalists Have Made Significant Gains

BBC: Germany election: Merkel wins fourth term, nationalists rise

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been re-elected for a fourth term while nationalists have made a historic breakthrough in federal elections, exit polls suggest.

Her conservative CDU/CSU alliance is set to remain the largest party in the parliament, with 32.5% of the vote.

Its outgoing coalition partner, the social democratic SPD, says it will go into opposition after winning 20%.

The nationalist AfD is on track to become the third party, with 13.5%.

The performance, better than forecast in opinion polls, means the right-wing, anti-Islam party will have seats in the Bundestag for the first time.

There are several definitions of nationalist.

I for one do not accept the definition that a liberal has for nationalist.

The nationalists in German will have to be careful. They will be scrutinized for every fault, while other politicians will get a free ride.

When things are in phase, the borders will come down and no one will much notice.

You can't have the borders come down, when things are so unequal and with the same fools running kleptocracies from Nigeria to Congo to Pakistan and elsewhere. Those countries can force out poor, uneducated people driven by want, avarice, and chauvinism faster than Europe can take them in and bring them up to speed (if the can at all). Those countries do not have to stop. Once they drive people out it reduces the need for them to reform. positively.
