Lizzie Dearden, The Independent: Terrorists' families should be jailed if they fail to alert authorities, says Government's top terror adviser
Max Hill says Government should consider increasing sentences for some terror offences
Terrorists’ friends and families should be jailed for failing to alert authorities to possible attacks, the Government’s most senior adviser on terror laws has said.
Max Hill QC, the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation, said some existing powers are underused or carry sentences that are too light to work as an effective deterrent.

WNU Editor: I have lost count over the years of hearing family members expressing shock on the news that a loved one decided to commit mass murder .... but learning later that all the signs were there. And while I know that plotting and planning a terror attack is different from a psychopath deciding on an impulse to commit mass murder, a lot of red flags are usually there for anyone to see. As to the question ....will punishing family members help to deter future terror attacks work? I have to say that is some cases it may. Most people are law-abiding, and will follow the law. Knowing that there are consequences for inaction and/or supporting someone who has made it very clear that he wants to commit terrorism .... common sense tells me that responsible family members and friends will voice their concerns. Now for those who do not ..... as I said .... there has to be some consequences.

Note: if a terrorist knows in advance that his family will also bear the brunt of what he does or is about to do, that might stop him. If on the other hand, he knows there are no consequnces personally to his family, he will believe what he does is for god and is ok
this is a perverse view of justice , punishing individual for the fault of there relative , no one have control over other action , and saying people should informe on there family member is just a totalitarian principle , why dont also take the families hostage untile the terrorist hand himself , man talk about losing your way ,this is a gang mentality
Failure to punish = Tacit approval
