Washington Post: U.S.-backed forces come under attack from pro-Assad fighters in Syria
BEIRUT — A U.S.-backed force fighting the Islamic State in Syria said Saturday that it had come under attack from forces supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, escalating tensions on one of the country’s most complex and contested battlefields.
The Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF, said the attack took place in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour, where the U.S.-backed militia is fighting the Islamic State as an Iran-backed force mounts a rival offensive.
“At 3am today, our forces East of Euphrates were targeted by Russian and Syrian regime warplanes in the Al-Sinaaiya area,” said the SDF military command in a statement, reporting that six of its fighters had been wounded.
It was not clear whether those casualties were the result of the airstrike or a separate altercation.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that a strike had taken place, but it did not elaborate on which pro-government force was responsible.

This was an interesting last week, seeing the SAA and friends reach Deir ez zor then the SDF frantically advanced south as if to grab as much territory as possible before the SAA crossed the river. Not sure if it's the oil fields that everyone is racing for or what, seemed like they had an agreement that they each stay on their side of the river, looks like that's a done deal. There must be some serious high tension talks going on behind the scenes right now!
6 wounded, hardly worth Russia or Syria's effort. Also makes it difficult to be believe it was a deliberate strike.
