Paul B. Stares, The Hill: Secret talks can cool tensions between US and North Korea
The confrontation with North Korea is accelerating toward a potentially catastrophic climax. Neither side in its right mind wants to start a nuclear war, but this is where we are headed if both Washington and Pyongyang do not appreciate how the growing momentum of the crisis could soon exceed their grasp. Immediate steps need to be taken to de-escalate tensions and lessen the risk of miscalculation and inadvertent conflict.
North Korea’s headlong pursuit of nuclear weapons and long-range ballistic missiles clearly triggered the current crisis, but President Trump’s bellicose threats at the United Nations along with his personal attacks on its leader, Kim Jong Un, have propelled the confrontation to dangerous new levels. This is now as much an individual contest of wills as an international one.

Trump should be impeached for standing in front of the UN and threatening the "complete destruction" of a country. Sure, it was in return for an earlier threat by north Korea. But we can't act like them. That's not who we are. We keep ignoring what Trump does - and it can be at existential cost to our democracy and ourselves. The entire nation's honour and integrity has been smeared by him to talk like that in front of the UN. I can only say to Trump supporters: Be honest to yourself, stop that guy and impeach him.
And please note :I can't stand hillary. Not a Democrat or leftie here. But Trump is not fit for this office and to retain American moral supremacy, he needs to be impeached. Not even because of the Russian meddling. Who knows if that's true. But Trump is such a bad, bad person, he just stains the entire States. And don't even get me started on his poor leadership qualities and ineffectiveness to get a good team together and get stuff done. Nothing got done in a year now. No healthcare. No border (for those who wanted it) no gloves off with China. Not even Korea. He brought the US on moral equivalence to north Korea when it comes to nukes. Can you imagine that? It would take a 13 year old who had a very bad day at school to act like he did. Unbelievable that people still defend him. Unbef'inglievable.
