The Warzone/The Drive: Canada Gets Desperate After Trade Dispute Upends Super Hornet Plans
Spat between Bombardier and Boeing has Canadian officials scrounging abroad for second-hand F/A-18s.
As Canada continues to struggle with what to do about its participation in the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program, attempts to buy interim replacements for its aging CF-18A+ Hornets have turned into a saga of their own. The country's military is desperately scrounging around for places like Kuwait and Australia for second-hand fighter jets to bolster their existing fleet in the wake of a rhetorically charged trade dispute between Canadian firm Bombardier and Super Hornet maker Boeing.
On Sept. 28, 2017, Canadian Defense Minster Harjit Sajjan revealed that Canada had and might still be considering buying second-hand F/A-18C/D Hornets from Kuwait. Unfortunately, there were serious concerns about whether the two countries could finalize a deal before the Royal Canadian Air Force’s (RCAF) approximately 65 active CF-18A+s, also known as the CF-188, reached the end of their service life.

I understand the Canadian problem because the Fighter-jet market is extremely narrow. F-18 is outdated and F-35 is a guess...
European Fighter's are out dated too and that's difficult to buy Russian one.
My preference (even reluctant) would go to the F-35 because this plane is structurally made for becoming an UAV as soon as it will be "mature". I know that's a big bet but that's better than a serial end.
Imagine how much Putin would want Canada to buy Russian planes. What a slap in the face of Americans that would be if their neighbours were to buy Russian over American.
I recall watching something about Canada's lost stealth fighter, the country actually had is own firm which developed and built fighters and from my understanding they were actually rather advanced. Rather sad that after the F22 project we saw so many merge into the worthless corporation that prefers to buy out the competition then compete with them.
Sweden has the solution
IMO the choice are American, Russian or Sweden.
Canada has a problem with is Air Force and its Navy.
I think Canada is just no serious about defense.
Cant go past the Swedes for bang for your buck.
