US News and World Report: House Intel Chair Launches Investigation of Uranium Deal

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., who signaled he was temporarily stepping aside from the Intelligence committee's probe into Russian election interference, announced he's leading a new Russia-focused investigation.

The top Republican on the House intelligence committee announced Tuesday that his committee is launching a joint investigation into a transaction approved by the Obama administration in 2013 that gave a Russian company control of 20 percent of U.S. uranium production capacity.

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., told reporters that his committee will be working with the House Oversight Committee to look into the deal, one of several such transactions completed between 2009 and 2013, and in particular whether the FBI or Justice Department had conducted any investigations associated with the transactions.

WNU Editor: The optics for the Clintons are terrible on this one. Two weeks before the deal is approved former President Clinton is paid $500,000 to do a short speech in Moscow .... but it does not end there .... after the deal was made we learn that those who benefited personally from the sale  donated over $100 million to the Clinton Foundation. And while the Clintons do have their defenders and supporters .... The Hill’s flimsy Russia-uranium story lands with maximum effect (Erik Wemple, Washington Post) .... they are not addressing how bizarre the coincidence of receiving all of this money at the same time that the decision to make (and approve) this uranium deal was being finalized. Yup .... the optics are just terrible. This also puts President Obama under the spotlight. This happened during his watch, and I suspect that he is not happy being lumped into another Clinton mess (again) .... especially if this story is true .... Update #4: This story is getting more weirder .... someone just emailed me that former Trump campaign manger .... who is at the center of the investigation by the Mueller Special Counsel .... also worked with the Podesta Group for years on behalf of Russian interests. For those who may not know .... John Podesta is a close and personal friend of the Clintons and was chairman of Hillary Clinton's Presidential campaign last year. Wow ... if true .... this is another big story. Nothing on the news wires right now, but the source who fed me this information is very reliable. I will update when more news becomes available.
