ABC News Online: Donald Trump tells Rex Tillerson he's 'wasting his time' trying to negotiate with 'Little Rocket Man'
US President Donald Trump says he has told Secretary of State Rex Tillerson not to waste his time trying to negotiate with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Mr Trump's comments, which were posted on Twitter, came a day after Mr Tillerson disclosed that the United States was directly communicating with North Korea on its nuclear and missile programs but that Pyongyang had shown no interest in dialogue.
This was the first time the Trump administration had acknowledged it was in direct communication with Pyongyang.

What concerns me right now is that this is the mindset of Kim Jung-Un.
I agree, at the moment talking is stalling and buying time as far as Kim is concerned.
I do get the feeling that he us feeling panicked and cornered his threats and bluster are not having the desired effect as with past administrations.
The message us crystal, renounce your nukes and dismantle your programme via diplomacy or it will be done for you by force.
No more negotiations no more summits, comply.

I know we are able to criticize Trump as much as we want, but his language which is completely "unusual" is working. The fear has changed side: NoKo threat Guam..., Threat to make a nuke in Pacific ocean, but nothing happens. Even China and Russia are very concerned, if we did that at the very beginning we will not be in this bad situation.
They should keep trying to get talks going in the faintest hope that there are segments of the population, perhaps in the leadership hierarchy in North Korea, who might become emboldened enough to overthrow Kim given the possibility of a non war solution. Talk is cheap but the fact is they aren't talking at all and making efforts to enter into talks, if nothing else, shows people of North Korea if they hear any outside news and the world efforts to avoid a war is ongoing.
From North Korea's perspective, given the criminal devastation through bombing inflicted on that country long years ago, there is no reason to wonder why they refuse to enter into talks.
Comparing what is going on now to what was going on in Neville Chamberlain's time is counter product and an exercise in apples to oranges thinking.
Common isn't it obvious that Trump plays the bad cop, and Tillerson the good cop in this comedy of foreign affairs?
Anon. The good cop bad cop scenario works really well when the subject who is generally not bright is in custody.
It is more like they are playing a game of chicken especially if they insist that disarmament of NK's nukes is a precondition to discussion or in other words, a precondition they know he cannot agree to. After all it is not Kim who is trying to enter into negotiations. Should he decide to surprise the world and agree to give up the nukes you can bet that the US will attack in a heartbeat such is their desire to use all that fire and manpower in the area, to put on a real show.
The real danger of course is that he will snap and launch a nuke or two with the most likely targets being SK and Japan. From Trump's perspective he is safe and he doesn't care one iota for the possibility that hundreds of thousands, perhaps a million people could die as a result. In fact he is probably hoping for the confrontation. 'He is no peacemaker and would see the world burn if he could be king of the ashes' loosely quoted from GOT.
Trump and the US military love this game and keep the flag flying in NK's collective face all they can. Troops stationed nearby in several locations, war ships everywhere and war planes flying all over keeping the rat in the corner trapped.
If the President of SK wants to keep trying the negotiation path they should not get in his way.

In fact the results of those wars is so hugely negative the US has not, nor will it ever emerge on the plus side.
