President Trump Says Congresswoman 'Totally Fabricated' Story That He Told A Soldier's Widow 'He Knew What He Signed Up For'

CNN: Trump: Dem congresswoman 'totally fabricated' his remarks to widow of fallen soldier

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump denied Wednesday that he told the widow of a US serviceman killed in an ambush in Niger that "he knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurt."

"Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!" he tweeted. He did not immediately provide proof to back the claim. CNN has reached out to the White House.

Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Florida, made the stunning claim Tuesday night, saying she was present when the call took place. Sgt. La David Johnson was among the four US soldiers killed by enemy fire in an October 4 ambush in Niger.

Update #1: Trump told widow of fallen soldier 'he knew what he signed up for,' says congresswoman (ABC News)
Update #2: War of words: Trump denies telling Special Forces soldier's widow in speakerphone call to family that her husband 'knew what he signed up for' – as congresswoman who heard it says president 'has a brain disorder' and didn't even know slain man's name (Daily Mail)

WNU Editor: Even though Democrat Congresswoman Frederica Wilson is a virulent anti-Trump supporter who has been calling for his impeachment since the beginning .... this story is not going to die. I suspect that this conversation was also recorded .... probably by both the White House and by those who were in the car where this conversation was made. Should it be made public .... a private conversation on such a topic .... definitely not. But in today's politicized world .... who knows.

There would be nothing inherently incorrect in what POTUS said if in fact he said this. A soldier does know what he/she signed up for. The part about "I guess it still hurt" might be construed as a bit insensitive depending upon the context but not materially incorrect.

The conversation itself may not be released to the public. The only parts I would anticipate being released are those that are the most damming to Trump and his team. In other words, assuming we get the conversation it will not be the conversation in its entirety. The only parts we sheeple are entitled to hear are going to be those the media who deem themselves our masters want us to hear.

When electing Mr. Trump the American people rejected their masters. As such, they cannot be forgiven by those who deem themselves our masters. As such, the de facto coup against Trump and his team must continue. To this end, we must invent fairy tales of Russian interference in our election AND undermine a VERY CAREFUL and DELIBERATE diplomatic effort that took YEARS to put together that MIGHT HAVE ENDED COLD WAR 2. At the very least TENSIONS WOULD HAVE BEEN LOWERED. But NO CERTAIN PETTY AND INSOLENT LOSERS HAD TO UNDERMINE THIS because they CANNOT graciously accept defeat, move forward, and advance America's interests.

You miss the point though. Social context is everything.

Wife: "I miss him..."
Trump: "He knew what he signed up for."

Yeah, that's not going to go down well is it? Regardless of how its constructed, in a social situation like that, not something you say to a grieving wife, mother, father, or any one who is missing someone.

The hypocracy of Trump supporters wailing that the losing side needs to get behind the winner for the goid if the country is breathtaking. Not surprising.

I guess 8 years of birther/socialist bullshit was just a way of getting behind the last winner, because the goid if the country is so important to them.

Breathtaking.

D.Plowman,

I think we are materially in agreement here. Wife: "I miss him." Trump: (assuming he actually said it, a big if) "he knew what he signed up for." If it went down this way, POTUS is absolutely correct in what he stated, however, as I think I pointed out when I stated this could be construed as insensitive. You stated "its not going to go down well" and social context is everything. I think we are essentially saying the same thing just perhaps expressing it differently.

Now if the wife had made reference to he knew what he signed up for and POTUS simply reaffirmed it, this could make a difference. Context is everything AND this really isn't that important of a story for the media to be wasting time on. Now if I were to hazard an educated guess here, POTUS probably said this in the manner suggested. Since he talks to allot of people, he probably does not even remember this particular conversation. POTUS has certain strengths and weaknesses like any else does.

POTUS tends to shoot from the hip and say the first thing that comes into his mind. This can be a good trait as it is good to know where a leader stands on a given issue and to know where they are coming from, however, when one acts in this manner they will often say things that they shouldn't have said and once said there is no way to pull it back. Furthermore POTUS often comes across as crass and insensitive. In his environment as results oriented person, being sensitive may be a liability. When speaking with a widow whose husband has just died in the line of duty, a different approach would be needed. POTUS lacks experience in such matters. When Americans elected him, they understood the current system was failing and needed to be changed. DJT is a "shot in the dark" so to speak.

Richard,

"birther/socialist" was never more than a fringe movement. BHO had huge support among the American people and still does. There may well be sound reasons to oppose Trump, however, very respectfully a full on coup against a duly elected leader is not going to be helpful and will have very nasty long range ramifications.

Trump has an amazing ability to try to say something decent and mucking that up...telling someone who just lost a son that he knew what he signed up for, even if accurate and well intentioned, is both heavy handed and very much out of place. ie, Well, Mrs. Lincoln, he knew going to the theater could be dangerous in these times

Chris Baldridge, the father of Army Cpl. Dillon Baldridge, told The Washington Post that President Trump called him at home and offered him $25,000 out of his personal account a few weeks after his 22-year-old son and two fellow soldiers were killed in Afghanistan in June. He also directed his staff to establish an online fundraiser for the family, the father said. Neither happened.

Just another day of lies and lies to try to coverup lies. Trump just can't help it, he has some kind of deep psychotic problem. The man needs mental health care desperately.

Rounds in your pocket are worth very little if you can put them down range to effect.

Read, if you have the tape use it.

If we could get rid of Sheila Jackson Lee, Frederica Johnson, Hank Johnson, Maxine Water,... It would be worth it it.

Maxine will be gone soon. In an identity politics world, 'her' district, will belong to a Hispanic. Don't cry. This has to happen due to the rule written by the DemoKKKrats.

Fred,

You do know that Service members' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) for every soldier is $400,000. If they do not opt out.

Mot that you want your family to collect, but...

www.benefits.va.gov/insurance/sgli.asp

"SGLI is a program that provides low-cost term life insurance coverage to eligible Service members. If eligible, you are automatically issued the maximum SGLI coverage. If you qualify for SGLI, you are automatically enrolled and do not need to apply for coverage.
Service members can make changes to your SGLI coverage. For example, Service members can decline SGLI coverage, select a lesser amount than maximum coverage, designate beneficiaries, and/or make other changes."

Why would we believe a liberal?

Liberals lie.

It is what they do.

Sarah Palin said 'I Can See Russia from My House'

Except that she did not.

Tina Fey of SNL said it, yet the majority of libtards believe that she said it.

Fred,

Of course "honest Abe" had to know going to the theater or pretty much anywhere would have been dangerous in those times. He went anyway. He had to live his life as we all do. Had someone pointed this out to Mrs. Lincoln they would be technically correct even if totally insensitive and disrespectful to Mrs. Lincoln.

POTUS has some fine qualities and some bad ones. One of his bad qualities is he is not a sensitive man and he tends to "shoot from the hip" without thinking through what he is saying.

As such, I wouldn't doubt he said this. Suggestion: in the future leave this sort of thing to team members who are more nuanced in such matters to hwndle this in the future. You served in Korean War 1. I wanted to serve in the military but my eyesight is poor. I have numerous friends who served in the military and have lifelong complications because of it. Military service isba real b!tch. We know this.

As for Mr. Baldridge, my heart aches for him and his family. He and his family are in my prayers. They have lost a son. If his story is true, why isn't he on every news station all the time. The media would eat this up!! He'd have 24/7 coverage praising him and condeming team Trump.

The reason this hasn't happened is because the conversation never took place or the promises were never made. The man is distraught and is hallucinating or worse is seeking to profit from this. Very respectfully you seem WAY to willing to bite at anything "anti-Trump" without thinking it through.
