Hindustan Times: Secretary of state Rex Tillerson pitches for greater cooperation between India and US ahead of visit

Tillerson called India and the US “two bookends of stability” on either side of the globe.

US secretary of state Rex Tillerson on Wednesday made a strong pitch for greater cooperation with India to tackle global threats and challenges such as ensuring a “free and open” Indo-Pacific region in the face of a predatory China.

Biased views? Are these guys for real? They sold mobile rocket launcher platforms to north Korea. They sold the rocket fuel. They sent oil and coal. The money. The political help. Everything to keep north Korea running came from them. All this has been happening while north Korea threatens to nuke the US and its allies. All this is happening while China gets rich on its theft of our intellectual property, copy rights and trademarks. Everything from military to household goods looks like a 1:1 copy of American and European products. The spying.the human rights violations. . the abduction of book sellers in Hong Kong. The unfair competition in the information sector keeping our companies out of their markets. Asking for 100 days and not delivering while north Korea keeps testing nukes. Pathetic.

What kind of a statement is that? Cooperation with India is good, but to play India off China sounds like Kissingerian geopolitics. China's Belt and Road initiative is transforming the world and we need to be a part of it, and so does India. that would address, to borrow Edward Teller's phrase, address the common aims of mankind. If Tillerson plays geopolitics, that's a road that leads only to hell.
