What's Wrong With West Point?

Task & Purpose: West Point Chief Pushes Back On Criticism Amid ‘Commie Cadet’ Investigations

U.S. Military Academy superintendent Lt. Gen. Robert L. Caslen Jr. has an important message for active-duty service members and veterans outraged over the viral photos of a communist West Point graduate that circulated in September: Yes, we’re taking this seriously.

In an Oct. 11 letter to the members of the USMA community, Caslen stated that 2nd Lt. Spenser Rapone — the Afghanistan combat infantry veteran and West Point grad captured with a Che Guevara shirt under his dress uniform and a “Communism Will Win” sign under his cover — is currently subject to two ongoing investigations by both West Point and his commanders with the 10th Mountain Division for what Army Times characterized as “subversive political views.”

WNU Editor: I mentioned this story this evening to one of my cousins who was a paratrooper in the Soviet military in the 1980s (he served two tours in Afghanistan). He thought I was pulling his keg. This is what happens  when the culture and the ideals that made America great are under constant attack .... over time something else replaces it. In the case of Spenser Rapone .... he has embraced Communism .... without appreciating its destructive history and the great pain that this ideology has brought to hundreds of millions of people over the years.

Just because he graduated from west point doesn't mean he's right, or very smart. Always judge people by the soundness of their arguments, never where they have graduated from. I've graduated from one of the best universities in the world, still I talk BS every day (and I enjoy it). ;) This guy is no different. He's going through a phase and clearly uses the media attention to his own advantage. He probably hopes to be pushed out of the service, only to then file a class action lawsuit and retire from it. Smart. Risky. Certainly shady. But yeah, America is great because it allows dissent in many shapes and forms. That's why America and the idea behind it will survive. We all know capitalism isn't perfect and uncontrolled capitalism is even worse and needs to be put into clearly defined boundaries. Some aspects of socialism are actually interesting and worthwhile exporing. If that's what he wants to do, more power to him, but he should make this clear - and the picture is not at all communicating this clearly. Maybe someone who has lived through communism should talk to this guy and set him straight. :)

Является ли коммунизм незаконным в США? Если нет, то почему он не может сказать, что он коммунист?

"He's going through a phase a"

Really?

How long do phases last?
How long can they last?
What can you get away with, because it is a phase?

A long time ago West Point has been known to have witches, who bothered people. So Rapone is no exception. West Point may not have as many fruits, nuts and flakes as a Massachusetts college, but it has a few.

How long your anti Liberal phase? Is it illegal in our nation or in that school to belong to the Woblies or the Communist party?
New York on the Hudson River across from the US Military Academy at West Point, NY. You can see the tips of the turrets from West Point. This is supposedly the castle that they used for the Wizard of Oz movie (the original movie). in other words, a location for a film and NOT witches at the Point

Is communism illegal in the US? If not, why can not he say that he is a Communist?

Because he is a danger no less than Bowe Bergdahl. In fact he is more of a danger that Bergdahl because he is an officer.

Is there a problem with people from former communist countries? No, many of those people know what a bad system it was.

Is it a problem that a person was a former communist? No, I know several. One is buried. Go to north edge of Tianamen Square. Face The Forbidden City. “Real sudden like turn west.” Walk 13.7 kilometers.

Is it a problem that they are a current communist? Depends. Hutterites are communists. They are communists, they are prosperous and they are not a threat. Some Mennonites are also communists. We do not kill Mennonites like the communists did in Russia. Rapone might want to ‘check his communist privilege’. We have more than a few communes in the U.S. If they grew and every one peacefully became communist, this would be acceptable. BTW one of these communes found out they had to pay unequal wages. They had to pay more wages for nasty work. Even communes cannot do communism.

The probably with Rapone is that he is attracted to everything anti-Murrican. If it is Islamcists, he is attracted to it. If it is people who sing The Internationale, he is attracted to it. If this were the 1930s, he would also be attracted to Hitler IMO.

Rapine is a problem, because people will wonder if he will go on Walkabout while in combat zone, frag them or commit espionage. People cannot do their best work with him in their unit. They have to keep an eye on him meaning they cannot keep 2 eyes on the enemy.

Fred,

There was a literal witch at West Point. That is someone who believed in Wicca (or something) and was more than willing to throw worthless curses at people for the psychological harm it would do. I never got to play with the witch. I do know some non-Christian ceremonies. It would have been fun scaring the dope.

Yes, it was or is illegal to be a communist. The Bolshevik flavor/kind should be illegal. They believe in the violent overthrow or the overthrow through subterfuge.
