China Announces A Technology Breakthrough To Be Able To Quickly Lauch Its Jets From Its Aircrtaft Carriers

South China Morning Post: Breakthrough to power most advanced jet launch system on China’s second home-grown aircraft carrier

Military chiefs have given green light for new integrated propulsion system capable of powering electromagnetic catapults, experts say

A technological breakthrough in naval propulsion will enable China’s second home-grown aircraft carrier to use the world’s most advanced jet launch system without having to resort to nuclear power, overcoming a huge hurdle in the vessel’s development, military sources said.

The development of the integrated propulsion system (IPS) would allow the vessel to be more efficient, allowing more power for an electromagnetic catapult, rather than a less technologically advanced steam-driven catapult launch system, the sources said.

China’s first two carriers, the Liaoning and its sister ship, the Type 001A, are conventionally powered vessels equipped with Soviet-designed ski-jump launch systems.

yeah I can imagine that breakthrough...
"Sir, we finally hacked into the DoD's provider and got the plans for the aircraft carrier"
"Excellent, I'll tell the newspapers to announce major technological breakthrough"
"For the emperor!"
"Huh?"
"Nevermind"
"For XI!"
"For XI!"

ELAS relies on rare earth superconductors and computing power.

Both are currently dominated by China.

Good intention for China, but ELAS need a lot of impulse power. They can do that without nuclear power, but the "cadence" will be slower, and that's a very important tactical problem. Anyway, they are catching up, that's true.
There is an other part of the big picture we are never talking about: the ability of the navy, air force or army: most of the officer have "bought" their grade and they know nothing about war. That's not my mind, that's the Xi Jinping worry.
Jay, are you telling that America is a third world country? I know you hate America, and that's your right, but you risk to go ridiculous without seeing it.
