Former President George H.W. Bush Admits That He Voted For Hillary Clinton

CNN: George H.W. Bush labels Trump a 'blowhard' in new book

Former President George H.W. Bush has a blunt assessment of Donald Trump: "He's a blowhard." And his son, former President George W. Bush, has harsh words for his Republican successor as well: "This guy doesn't know what it means to be president."

Those stinging comments mark the first time the former presidents are speaking out about Trump in such stark terms, as part of a new book about the father and son by historian Mark Updegrove, titled "The Last Republicans."

Both men went on the record to give Updegrove their candid assessment of Trump, as well as rare insight into their thoughts on the 2016 presidential race as the drama unfolded.

The most critical comments about Trump came from the elder Bush, now 93, who told Updegrove in May 2016, "I don't like him. I don't know much about him, but I know he's a blowhard. And I'm not too excited about him being a leader."

Not surprising. Pathetic, but not surprising. This man allowed his presidency to be eaten alive by the MSM and socialist Democrats. Never once forcefully defended his people or his policies. Never once criticized Obama over his eight years and again allowed Obama to blame him for virtually everything that went wrong during the Obama term. Now he blasts Trump and admits he voted for Clinton.

Gee thanks, George.

Its all a big elitist club in DC. Where they glad hand and scheme and squabble and flatter and deceive... It just adds more credence to the Trump agenda. And I can promise you his base will be quite annoyed by this and just dig their heels in harder.

George H.W. Bush was elected into the White House on Reagan's coat tails.

He ran a lackluster campaign in 1992. It was reported that he had Graves disease and was beginning treatment. That certainly is part of it, but there is still that element of the country club wing of the Republican party that just does not fight very hard.

George H.W. Bush bad mouthed Reagan until he became VP.

I m not really sure what he is worth to the party outside of the RINOs.

I respect that he headed west and made his fortune and that he was a military vet. Desert Storm wasn't bad. Other than that I cannot think of anything positive.

I know that they accused Bush of having a mistress during his presidency. Nothing came of it. If they had the proof they would have spilled it. I don't know how much his mind has gone in the last 25 years, but his butt groping certainly is not helping. So much for the noblesse oblige and haute couture of northeast liberals.

Yep - my post is totally off. Missed the "GHW" and just saw "W". Most of it holds for "W" though.

Russ,

I holds for GHWB & GWB.

Your analysis was not off a bit.

Do you remember GHWB criticizing Clinton from 1993 to 2000?

I do remember GHWB rehabilitating Bill Clinton's image by taking him along for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Relief.

Russ,

Post # 1 is spot on. I couldn't have put it any better myself. I might add in voting for DJT the American people rejected their "masters." As such the "masters" must carry out a de facto coup against a duly elected president. I might also add GHWB and GWB were/are among the worst presidents in US history. There criticism should be treated as a badge of honor by those they are criticizing.

WNUE,

Maybe it's a sign of how far the Republican base has moved from where it once was. It is not the same party from 20-30 yrs ago.

Matthew,
The America of today is definitely not the America of 20 or 30 years ago. Maybe outside of the Beltway, but definitely not in the urban centers.

@ MD,

It's not the Repub's base whose positions have radically moved. It is the Democrats who have become radical. The base of their party and its leadership are off the charts leftwing/socialist. Backed up by an equally corrupt and socialist MSM.

Too many millennials are getting their gruopthink twitter brainfeeds from the likes of Stephen Colbert, Seth Myers, Keith Olbermann, etc... (not so much Kimmel these days. ...hmm) There to gin up hysteria at any Trump statement. And get it wrong. Every time.

WNU is right that the US has changed much in DC and us cities. Deep Blue urban centers are despairing places. Populated by a Dependent class who are justifiably dissatisfied with their lot. But without whom the Democrats would lose the last bastion of their power. He's also correct that it has very much stayed the same OUTSIDE the beltway and urban centers. The districts that Trump won. Those are the people who have stayed the same over the past 30 years. They spoke up last November.

/anyway, go read (or youtube) some JFK speeches. I think you'll find him almost Trumpian

RSC,

I guess you have never heard of the Tea Party. I don't disagree that the Left has gone very left, but refusing to acknowledge how far right the Right has moved ignores reality.

'The Tea Party is not right wing.'

Saying it does not make it so.

I am reminded of a Democrat Sheriff, you said if we don't raise taxes "Oh Noooooesss, I will have to lay off deputies."

The tax hike failed failed to pass. No deputies were laid off.

So the Democrat Sheriff lied. I am shocked! SHOCKED! SHOCKED!

Democrat politicians will take everything if you let them.
