Is The U.S. Navy Floundering?

Matt Young, News.com.au: US Navy floundering under sea of crises, according to jaw-dropping reports

THE US Navy is floundering in a big way. Now, sailors are beginning to share their stories as the extent of the crisis is revealed.

“IT’S only a matter of time before something horrible happens.”

These were the ominous warnings of a shipmate taken in a survey on US Navy cruiser Shiloh in a desperate bid to be heard.

Another described it as a “floating prison”.

“I just pray we never have to shoot down a missile from North Korea,” a distraught sailor lamented, “because then our ineffectiveness will really show.”

According to the Navy Times, “these comments are not unique”.

As the desperate search for three missing American sailors lost at sea ended Friday afternoon, whispers surrounding the United States’ military strength suggest a worrying decline in competency from both sea and air.

Foundering.
Not the fish.

Those are the wrong kind of boats for floundering per se. Unless maybe flounder seek shade. I don't know.

Geez now I notice it's some ozzy's fault. :(
Another innocent immigrant tagged by a flying piece of thrown off the settling wreckage of our good old English speech. ;)

Im not saying "floundering" isn't the more descriptive term in this case. But you have to draw the line somewhere.

NAVY CORRUPTION CASE BLOWS WIDE OPEN!

"FAT LEONARD" FRANCIS SET TO PLEAD GUILTY
TO BRIBING SENIOR NAVAL OFFICERS WITH CASH AND PROSTITUTES - CRIMINAL MASTERMIND RAN SINGAPORE-BASED CONTRACTING FIRM THAT SUPPLIED FOOD, FUEL AND WATER TO NAVAL WARSHIPS "STEERED" TO ASIAN PORTS WHERE U.S. TAXPAYERS RIPPED OFF TO THE TUNE OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS - TWO NAVY ADMIRALS
MAY HAVE HAD KNOWLEDGE OF THE SCAM

What do the CIA or diplomats do in Singapore?
I am sure they have or should have lots of duties, but ...

What did NCIS know and when did they know it?

NCIS has a field office in Singapore and ...

NCIS has officers in the fleet riding along. They are like commissars or something except better. They don't lecture about communism.

Well at least one guy knew and ... (I missed that article. It explains a lot.)

NCIS has a field office in Singapore. By my count, which is incomplete, NCIS had 7 chances to find this out in a 2 year period.

This went on for a long time and the investigation has been going 4 or 5 years or more. There have been a few convictions, but it does not seem like enough. Maybe Trump should have a news conference on it; Obama just whistled past the graveyard and acted like there was no problem. Just get it done. This is a serious national security threat. Where is The Foundation?

It appears that Rear Admiral David R. Pimpo got in trouble for not auditing the books. I am sure he and his people audited the books and did not make one mathematical or procedural error. There are ways of getting around audits. I saw a person get fired, who did their audits diligently and but someone noticed that they made one mistake and so defrauded the government (taxpayer). Rear Admiral and staff perhaps did not do a survey of port services and know what they should cost at various ports around the world.

Look on the bright side. Obama (& Mabus), the Bambino, kept a lid on this scandal for 3 or more years.

Well, promotion is getting easier. There is that.

First of all, the US actually has a navy. That is more than what many other nations have. And more important, they have the experience. I would not even want to think what would happen if, for example, the Swedish "navy" had to actually do some combat.

Obama is at fault? I had thought there had been an election, a new president, a strong gop majority controlling everything...that Obama sure manages to sneak in lots of things no matter who is in charge, running things, reviewing things, overseeing things

Hans,
Some time ago a friend of mine in a service was at a conference. The speaker of the day was a British naval officer. At the end of his speech they took questions and an American naval officer asked him to compare British and American naval "Traditions". He replied that the British Navy has "Traditions" and the American navy has "Habits".

The military problem is not only in the Navy. All braches have problems. Sequestration cut money and the first thing we cut is training, the second is maintenance and the last is lack of audit in new program's.
We really are in a bad shape and it will take a while for catching up.

Fred,

The scandal really hit in 2013. They were investigating before that and had enough to get Leonard. How long does it take to get the interviews and make people roll? It has been 4 years. IMO it should have been wrapped up by now, say in 2015.

Jay does have a point. Look at who they are getting. I am thinking that maybe these Rear Admirals may have been doing it since they were O4s or O5s. I don't know for sure. But if you figure out how long it takes to make rank and work backward (~ 8 years).

The Wapo said it expanded to 440 officers. I do not know if it is true, but it is pretty scary.

"In 2010, Navy officials became suspicious that some of the bills submitted by GDMA from Thailand were padded. After a three-year secret investigation, federal agents lured Francis to the United States in September 2013, arresting him at a San Diego hotel in a sting operation. He pleaded guilty in January 2015 and is awaiting sentencing" - Wiki

Yup, Obama's fault.

I am thinking Fat Leonard might be 3rd generation got greedy and started seeing what he could pull.

LMAO,

"The government’s indictments allege that the group of officers who came to call themselves, among other nicknames, “the cool kids” and “the wolf pack,” began conspiring with Francis “on the high seas” around February 2006. Among the first conspirators were Capt. David Newland, who was chief of staff of the USS Blue Ridge in 2006; Col. Enrico Deguzman, Fleet Marine Officer for U.S. 7th Fleet in 2006, Capt. Donald Hornbeck, chief of staff for operations aboard the USS Kitty Hawk; Capt. James Dolan, assistant chief of staff for logistics for 7th Fleet; Capt. Bruce Loveless, assistant chief of staff for intelligence for 7th Fleet; Capt. David Lausman, executive officer aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln; and Chief Warrant Officer Robert Gorsuch, 7th Fleet flag administration officer",

Hans,absolutely right.
However, you have to understand that the article's main intent is not to have a discussion. It's only its secondary focus. Main focus in today's world is to get clicks and shares. So don't take it at verbatim. It's meant to provoke and get you to comment etc etc. Of course the US navy still rocks and is vastly superior than many other even second in class Navy's. But it's more fun to discuss potential signs of demise :)

That's right, Fred. And the British traded their empire for it. Having lived in England for many years I can tell you they are proud of their traditions of talking fancy and forget their habits. .like colonising. .inventing the first concentration camps. .slavery (called differently though. .they weren't as stupid..).. but every country is like that. :)

Unknown said...

Anon,

Pray tell how the English invented slavery?

Slavery has been around since the dawn of time or at least the ancient or classical periods.

If you are talking about moder African slave trade, the Spanish beat the English and the good ole Muslims beat them.

We have a slave trade in Muslim land right now, namely in Sudan Mauretania and Libya.

Maybe washed up QB Kaepernick could take a new for modern day slave victims of Muslims.

Like I said Jay, Obama's fault

1) How often to do catch conspiracies, when they are incipient?

2) The case was well known in 2010 thru 2103 and nothing from the Coward in Chief.

It was investigated in 2010 or before. The investigation went hot in 2010. Admirals were involved at that time it should have got Obama's attention.

Advancement of officers (admirals) have to be approved by Congress. Congress has held up the advancement of every last officer for a time. You have more than 1 admiral involved in a scam the SECNAV, Obama's guy Mabus, should have told OBAMA. Like I said this should have been wrapped up in 2015 and it is Obama's fault.

IMO the scams started in 1992 or sometime thereafter. They started small and as they became more experience the grift rate grew. The earliest scam I am aware of is 2004.

The reason we know about this is that it was actively talked about (i.e conspiracy at least as far back as 2006) and the grift rate increased.

I'm betting it went as far back as Clinton. Not sure if it was big enough then to attract notice.

Unknown said...

Definitely a Obama problem.

He can't close the deal in 6 years?

Unknown said...

Yup, reading the timeline it was incipient from FEB 2006 through April 2006. Nothing to catch by a president.
