Lebanon's Prime Minister Resigns Over Iran And Assassination Fears

Reuters: Lebanese PM Hariri resigns, attacking Iran, Hezbollah

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Lebanon’s prime minister Saad al-Hariri resigned on Saturday, saying he believed there was an assassination plot against him and accusing Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah of sowing strife in the Arab world.

His resignation thrusts Lebanon back into the frontline of Saudi-Iranian regional rivalry and seems likely to exacerbate sectarian tensions between Lebanese Sunni and Shi‘ite Muslims.

It also shatters a coalition government formed last year after years of political deadlock, and which was seen as representing a victory for Shi‘ite Hezbollah and Iran.

Hariri, who is closely allied with Saudi Arabia, alleged in a televised broadcast that Hezbollah was “directing weapons” at Yemenis, Syrians and Lebanese and said the Arab world would “cut off the hands that wickedly extend to it”.

Harriri met with an Iranian delegation on Monday,

Got summoned to Rihadi on Wednesday,

Resigned in Rihadi on Friday,

Returned to Beruit on Saturday.

"(BEIRUT) — Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri resigned from his post Saturday during a trip to Saudi Arabia in a surprise move that plunged the country into uncertainty amid heightened regional tensions."

Then, he publicly slams the Lebanese Shia, Hizboallah, Iran, Quatar, Iraq,...... Aserbating tensions in Lebanon and the region,

Looks like the Saudi's "You're Fired" him. They did the same to Saleh in Yemen, but that didn't go over well.

I imagine that's why he's in Riyadh now. But time will pass, his private security provided by the king will eventually relax, and we'll see some grainy footage on the news of him getting into an elevator with someone and never walking out.

Hariri sees the writing on the wall. He sees the Russian-Iranian-Syrian-Hezbollah Axis winning. He might not like the Syrians for killing his father, but he has to lump it.

The Saudis withdrew their support from him, so he had to resign. The Sunnis in Lebanon are not happy with Hezbollah, but like Hariri, they have had to put up with it.

There is a difference between b earing it and getting in bed with the enemy.

3 or 4 years ago there was clashes between the Shia and Sunni in Tripoli.
