New York Times: Saudi Arabia Arrests 11 Princes, Including Billionaire Waleed bin Talal
LONDON — Saudi Arabia announced the arrest on Saturday night of the prominent billionaire investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, plus at least 10 other princes, four ministers and tens of former ministers.
The announcement of the arrests was made over Al Arabiya, the Saudi-owned satellite network whose broadcasts are officially approved.
The reports in Al Arabiya and from other sources that Prince Alwaleed was among those arrested were sure to send shock waves both through the Kingdom and the world’s major financial centers.
Prince Alwaleed, who controls the investment firm Kingdom Holding and is one of the world’s richest men, has major stakes in News Corp, Time Warner, Citigroup, Twitter, Apple, Motorola and many other well-known companies. He also controls satellite television networks watched across the Arab world.
The sweeping campaign of arrests appears to be the latest move to consolidate the power of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the favorite son and top adviser of King Salman.

WNU,
Notice the similarity to Xi in China in using an anti corruption entity to go after domestic opponents? A technique as old as the hills.
James,
Yup. It works.
In the last 10 years or maybe twice as long, Saudi Arabia has had to have real budgets.
There is not as much largesse to go around. Also in the last 5 years aliens or illegal aliens have been driven out. Those would be easy to read tea leaves.
People should have changed their practices. Heck Jrs' father might have done what he is charging people with, but that was then and this is now.
Sorry, but I notice the same dead fish eyes in that Saudi Prince as the ones in the NYC truck attacker.
This is leading towards the big war.
How so?
Russ,
A photograph can be shot at your worst moment and all side make use of that fact.
I have seen it done with Palin, Pelosi. Michelle "Crazy Eyes" Bachman, etc.
Jim,
I would like to argue with you, but I got nothing.
World War one was immediately preceded by two Balkans Wars.
Esteemed, learned, and very erudite politicians and diplomats stopped in the end at least one of the Balkan Wars, For example they did not want Constantinople to fall and upset the 'balance of power'.
So they stepped in, halted the wars, gave themselves kudos and war broke out 'officially' 1 year 10 days later.
The Balk Wars ended on 18 July 1913 and WW! officially began 28 July 1914.
Do you see the difference with and without diplomatic palavering?

The Balkans were known at one time as the cockpit of Europe according to common wisdom and it was said that there is always fighting there because that is what they do.
This is the same thing said about the Middle east. There is always fighting there, because that is what they do.
So a world conflagration would not be unexpected.
