RT: Putin: US wants to disrupt upcoming Russian presidential election
The Russian President has said he is “worried” Washington has plans to stir up trouble at the 2018 presidential election, in response to Moscow’s alleged meddling in last year’s vote in the US.
“In response to our alleged interference in their election, [the Americans] want to create problems with the presidential election in Russia,” Putin stated Thursday. In order to do so, Washington might use its “broad connections and dependency” mechanisms in the Olympics committee, the Russian leader said during his official visit to the city of Chelyabinsk.

WNU Editor: Blaming the U.S. for Russia's doping scandal in sports is not going to work for most Russians .... this topic is discussed openly on Russian social media, and no one is blaming the U.S. for it. So why is Russian President Putin accusing the U.S. that they are using this scandal to disrupt Russia's elections next year .... while no one is believing him (at least in my circle of Russian friends and family) .... is making me scratch my head.

I think he is being sarcastic.

You're probably right that the doping scandal has nothing to do with it, but the fact is that the US has been mucking around in other people's business since at least the late 1940's. The Iran coup of 1953 and the overthrow and murder of Chilean president Allende in 1973 are two famous examples. After the intelligence scandals of the mid-1970's, much of that activity was privatized through the National Endowment for Democracy and George Soro's Open Society networks, but as Victoria Nuland showed in Kiev in 2014, the US government is still very much involved in regime changes. Unfortunately, despite Trump's campaign promises, not much has changed and I fully expect there'll be an operation, partly official, partly privatized to try to change the election results from outside of the next Russian election.
I think he has a point.
The Clintons have a lot of friends scattered throughout the entirety of the US government. Not only that, even those who detest the Clintons may be looking for payback on the Russians for what they believe was a Russian attempt to influence the US election.
Putin is right to be worried. Some very powerful individuals in the US government has a grudge against the Russians. They may wish for some payback.
I'd also imagine that President Trump would have to sign of on any such attempts, which he is likely to never do. But we don't live in an ideal world, do we? So there is the possibility such a grudge may be acted out without his approval.
Dear Mr Putin
In my field this would be called Projection
No one is going to mess with Russia's elections next year. Why? It would only backfire as they would be caught for sure and only would give Putin a stronger grip to power. This is Putin basically keeping his play open and starting the narrative that the Americans are doing something in case he needs that narrative later (to me that's a sign of weakness, that he really might need that..or he just wants it for fun..that I could imagine)
