Spain Jails 8 Catalan Ministers And Issues A European Arrest Warrant For The Former President Of Catalonia

The Guardian: Spanish judge jails eight members of deposed Catalan government

Former ministers remanded in custody pending possible charges following last month’s push for regional independence

A judge in Madrid has ordered eight members of the deposed Catalan government to be remanded in custody pending possible charges over last week’s declaration of independence, while Spanish prosecutors are seeking a European arrest warrant for the region’s ousted president, Carles Puigdemont.

A ninth, who resigned the day before the Catalan parliament voted to declare independence last Friday, can remain at liberty on bail of €50,000.

WNU Editor: Former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont read this one right .... he knew that if he showed up, they would have thrown him in jail. As for the 8 former ministers who did show up .... they are going to be in jail for a long time (because according to the courts they are a flight risk). And as for the election to be held in December .... the Spanish government just accomplished its goal of wiping out the opposition. I expect no condemnation from the EU on what has just happened.

I do not like this fragmentation.

But part of me thinks that if it is an amicable divorce, then Europe will truly unify faster in the future, than if they force everyone to unify under the threat of force.
