The NFL Continues To Pursue Its Public Relations Disaster Policy With Its Fans

New York Post: Saints in public feud with disabled veteran over anthem protests

The New Orleans Saints are firing back at a retired Navy commander who declined to be honored at their game Sunday because of players protesting during the national anthem, calling his decision “unfortunate and disappointing.”

Retired Navy Cmdr. John Wells, executive director of the Louisiana-based Military Veterans Advocacy, was selected by the Saints to receive its Peoples Health Champion Award for highlighting the “health and well-being of our military, veterans and their families,” according to the team’s statement Thursday.

But Wells told the organization Wednesday not to expect him at the game, since he’s unable “in good conscience” to enter an NFL stadium where some players continue to “disrespect” the American flag by kneeling or sitting before or during the national anthem.

I suppose that when all the dust settles, this kneeling protest will end up costing all players across the board a 10-20% pay cut. Hope it was worth it!

I don't understand why people take offence if a grown man makes the decision to protest something that clearly is worthwhile for him to protest. Is it because you feel you have to listen to their claims/feelings/protest while you pay good money for them to do their job/play? I could get that. ..but I always thought sports is about more. ..Like striving for your own best, encouraging others to go further, and bridge common differences. If your players piss you off so much for taking a few minutes out of your life to protest something they feel strongly about, then you're not true fans. .you're just random people showing up to watch grown men fight each other for a few million they need after they retire at 35 to pay off their medical and healthcare billa for 50 years or so? So you're just bloodlust spectators who go there for the kicks and giggles. Of course you get pissed if someone brings life issues to the place where you want to turn your brains off. But you realise you look like racists, right? :)
