McClatchy News: More than 16 sexual assaults are reported each day at military bases
More than 6,150 non-domestic adult sexual assaults were reported to the U.S. military from October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016, according to a new report by the Department of Defense.
Nearly 400 of them were reported at North Carolina’s major military installations.
There were six North Carolina bases included in the report — Camp Lejeune (169 reported cases), Fort Bragg (146), Marine Corps Air Station New River (32), Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point (27), Seymour Johnson Air Force Base (13) and Pope Army Airfield (10).
For context, Fort Bragg, the largest military base in the United States, has a population of about 140,000 soldiers and civilians – outnumbering all but a handful of North Carolina cities.

WNU Editor: With all the public discussions, laws, policies, and actions initiated by the Pentagon, Congress, and the White House over the years .... it is incomprehensible that this is still a crisis. But a crisis it is.

There is yearly training in two parts. The word has gotten out.

All I can say is that McClatchy news service sucks at their job.
"There were 670 reported assaults at joint bases and another 125 in combat areas for a total of 6,153, which averages to 16.8 reported assaults per day."
"The report includes rape, sexual assault, forcible sodomy, aggravated and abusive sexual contact and attempts to commit those crimes."
All you have is big numbers.
This news is not in a a relator format.?) How does it compare to the population at large?
I expect the military to be better. Maybe 10X better. Maybe 100X better is too much to expect. Can we tell, if the military is better from the McClatchy Disinformation? Service?
You can lie with statistics. The dudes and dudettes at McClatchy did not bother with mathematics. That is too hard, so they went to journalism school. They can lie without statistics. If they are called on it, they can say "We did not know. We are ignorant."
If you pull their string between their shoulder, blades they will say "Math is hard!"
I know for a fact that the military has been keeping stats for over a generation.
Which reminds me of this gem. The opening salvo by urinalist Brian Murphy.
"More than 6,150 non-domestic adult sexual assaults were reported to the U.S. military ..."
The military keeps stats on what happens to their military members whether they get assaulted on post or off post and whether it is by another military member or a civilian. I remember doing the stats at one time. So if someone leaves a post and is assaulted by a civilian a presstitutes will have a field day with the #s. A delivery guy to the post can assault someone and it will reflect badly on the military using the numbers the way they are presented.
"For context ..."
No, there is not enough context.
I wonder what Brian's work folder for this story looks like?
16 non domestic per day reported. The link below suggests that might be 10% of the actual occurrences.

You have to wonder what the number of sexual abuse incidents is in US occupied countries where the men are armed and no doubt very few are reported.
We look at sexual misconduct that makes the papers and tv today, and that gives us a lesson: many incidents are NOT reported. Mr Smith, anti Mclatchy venom aside, expects the military to be better. On what basis?
Mr S also notes courses to teach proper sexual behavior. But recent science articles I have read suggest there is no evidence that such courses work, and yet they are mandated.

Is that any different than civilian life?
"Mr Smith, anti Mclatchy venom aside, expects the military to be better. On what basis?
1) The education levels are higher.
2) People prior to entering the military do not have records for the most part. Air Force recruits absolutely do not. So to an extent these people are cherry picked. On the other hand there are reports of gang members getting in for training. Or gays getting in for the medical benefits (I heard this plan straight from the horses mouth.).
3) These people are taken care of. But maybe that is part of the problem. Ask Maslow. Once you solve one problem you go onto the next (which may be a problem). I have heard of 'minnow runs'. It tends to solve problems legally and keep people busy lower down in the hierarchy.
"Mr S also notes courses to teach proper sexual behavior. But recent science articles I have read suggest there is no evidence that such courses work, and yet they are mandated. "
I did not say whether the course work or do not work. You yourself have no basis for saying if they do or do not work.
I did say they existed, are held yearly, and are in two parts. These are facts.
Now, the neat part of them being mandated is that they enable the old man or the judge to throw the book at someone, because they were warned. They cannot claim ignorance. From that standpoint they are salutary.
""Mr Smith, anti Mclatchy venom aside"
You do not expect reports to be in a relator format in x or y per 100,000 so that you can make a comparison? Heck forget about the civilian population comparison. If the military doubled in size and the assaults were 16.8 per day, the urinalist could write the same story. The problem would be 1/2 as bad, but the urinalist could write the same damn story. For Shame!
Fred,
This story is right up your alley.
"Lena Dunham Experiences the World She's Helped Create"
We now learn that not only is Lena a hypocrite sexual assaulter, but she is a hypocrite liberal, racist (but I repeat myself).
Thank hod no such stuff in the conservative work. Oh Moore? Fske liberal stuff
Fred,
Moore is one of yours. Read up on it.
Who is this 'hod' guy you are thanking anyway, Fred?
BTW which one of the 10 commandments do you find objectionable, Fred?

All I can say is that the article you forwarded was sloppy.

http://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/stats/Crime/Rape-rate

"The department of veterans affairs, meanwhile, released an independent study estimating that one in three women had experience of military sexual trauma while on active service. That is double the rate for civilians, which is one in six, according to the US department of justice."
This data is not normalized. It also does not fit what I have seen or heard.
