Images from an April 15 military parade in Pyongyang show what appear to be North Korean 'commandos' carrying AK-47 assault rifles with attached grenade-launchers. But they are really 'helical' magazines designed to store bullets in a spiral shape
USA Today: In case of war, North Korean troops 'will fight like tigers,' some to the death
North Korea may have short soldiers who look hungry. Their equipment may be antiquated. And some troops have intestinal parasites. But the fourth-largest military in the world still poses a formidable threat, analysts say.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Friday told the United Nations Security Council that while the U.S. does not want war with North Korea, it will “use all necessary measures to defend itself against North Korean aggression.”
The door is open for U.S.-North Korea talks, but “a sustained cessation of North Korea’s threatening behavior must occur before talks can begin,” Tillerson said. “North Korea must earn its way back to the table."

WNU Editor: This will be a war between Koreans. Will the North Korea soldiers "fight-like tigers" against their southern cousins? I suspect that many will .... I also suspect that many will not.

Many units will defect as soon as they have the opportunity, Kim faces the real threat of coup once the shooting starts.
Like starving tigers.
Imagine the entire army running south like the recent defector.

Fazman,
I've always liked your optimism. Unfortunately I do not share it but hope you are right. We may be about to find out as North Korea is leaving us little choice right now. The choices are absorb a crushing blow and hope we will still be able to mount enough of a response to defend our country or act preemptively to try and eliminate the threat.
Either way we Americans should not be under any delusions. In any conflict with North Korea millions and perhaps 10s of millions of our people are going to die. This is not something to be taken lightly. with that said, at present, it appears our only option is to try and eliminate the threat before we are hit. At least this way, we might have a fighting chance.
Tigers or not, the dragons, ie Chinese, joined them as I recall back in 1950, and they together made a formidable opponent. We have no guarantee it will be S.K. verus N. K., and, in fact, with 30 thou Am troops close to 38th parallel, we are bound to get involved, aside from our pact with our allies there
I suspect that they will behave as the ordinary russian soldier in WW2, with NKVD's in their backs. They will fight like patriots when the opportunity presents, some will get shot by these NKVD's. The others will behave as ordinary soldiers defending their country.
Not with guts full of parasites, they won't.
...for very long.
And fazman has a good point.
What they should be asking is in the event of a war will South Korea fight like tigers, as well as Japan or will they choose their race and kill the white man?
Socialist armies do not fight well when the command and control structure is disrupted. Top down organizations do not encourage independent thinking and action. That is how Pizarro took Peru with less than a 100 Spaniards - he captured the Inca and the rest of the Incan military did not know what to do.
B.Poster, l sincerely believe nukes will not be used, and any nth units will be well below strength ,without enough food ,fuel, ammo, or moral to live up to expectations.
The time will soon be here when the u.s and her allies will hit first and hit hard.
Much like the pessimistic Pentagon forecasts in 91 (25000 u.s casualties in the first week) this war will be bad but vital for your future security and casualties will be acceptable relative to the end result ( sub 20k).
Yep empty bellies, low ammo, low morale, lack of communication and direction, mechanical breakdowns, poor training,
This not a repeat of round one, the sk and u.s troops are not green recruits and there is NO parity of equipment, Intel, or logistics.
fazman,
I think you're right.
Thanks, l hope so
