New York Times: Kremlin Denies Flynn Influenced Decision on Sanctions
MOSCOW — The Kremlin said on Monday that it was “absurd” to suggest that President Vladimir V. Putin was influenced in any way by a request from the Trump transition last December to refrain from retaliating against sanctions imposed by President Barack Obama over Russian meddling in the election.
“The president makes his own decisions, guided solely by Russia’s national interests,” said the Kremlin’s spokesman, Dmitri S. Peskov.
President Donald J. Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, pleaded guilty last week to lying to the F.B.I. about conversations he had with the Russian ambassador to Washington at the time, Sergey I. Kislyak. In court papers released as part of the plea agreement, he said he had urged the Kremlin to hold its fire.
Mr. Kislyak later told Mr. Flynn that Russia had chosen “to moderate its response to those sanctions as a result of his request,” according to the court documents. On Dec. 30, despite widespread expectations of a tough retaliation that had already been announced by the Russian foreign minister, Sergey V. Lavrov, Mr. Putin released a statement saying that Russia will not respond in kind.

WNU Editor: I remember commenting at the time that the Kremlin was not going to retaliate in the hope that a solution could be found when the Trump administration had settled in. As to Michael Flynn having the clout to tell what Putin can do .... he may have wanted to send a message to the Kremlin, but in the end Putin will do what Putin wants .... not what Michael or anyone else in the Trump administration may want.

And so another happy ending for Putin who had all the scenarios covered in the US election.
Although he wanted HRC to be president because he had already corrupted her, his strategy was to create the Russia connection/support story that was designed to create a negative around Trump.
HRC failed of course but Putin could say that he was one of the few leaders who expressed some tacit support for Trump as president, allowing an in for the low percentage chance he thought Trump would actually win.
Of course, the Russia-Trump story has taken on a life of its own but it will fade or be HRC's road to jail.
Read an article by a regionally well known lib.
Their view was that Russia was China's catspaw.
They believe that HRC and the Democrats are full-on, balls out hypocrites. They don't much like Republicans either. They think the Russian collusion story is crap and that we ought to focus on the real enemy, China.
They also think that if Russia is letting itself be used, then we should break them.
They were rather histrionic. I think Dems are going to have a hard time in the future.
I think, if the Dems have pictures of Bill Clinton from the Lolita flights, they are going to use them, if they cannot get the Clintons to 'cease and desist' and retire.
La Fontaine's fable, "The Monkey and the Cat"
"In the Flynn affair, there was no need for the FBI to ask any questions about the telephone chats, since the transcripts were available from the get-go."
So Mueller is a partisan sack of ____!
I think the Demoncats need to keep pressing their perceived advantage.
Maybe Putin and the rest get to try out their bunkers?
I mean if he doesn't, he could always release names of how many journalists & politicians the USSR suborned in the 1960s and 1970s and at other times. That might deflate the Demoncats enough that they have a come to Jesus moment.
If not, we can all enjoy the suck.
