Palestinian Officials Will Not Meet U.S. Vice President Pence When He Visits The Region Later This Month

Reuters: Palestinians to snub Pence during visit over Jerusalem move

CAIRO/GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will not meet U.S. Vice President Mike Pence during Pence’s visit to the region this month, in a snub over the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the Palestinian Foreign Minister said on Saturday.

Violence erupted for a third day in Gaza in response to President Donald Trump’s announcement on Wednesday, which overturned decades of U.S. policy towards the Middle East.

Israeli air strikes killed two Palestinian gunmen on Saturday after militants fired rockets from the enclave into Israel on Friday, which had been declared a “day of rage” by Palestinian factions.

Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem has infuriated the Arab world and upset Western allies, who say it is a blow to peace efforts and risks sparking more violence in the region.

Abbas has become irrelevant for the West Bank Palestinians, and Hamas wants nothing to do with anything but eliminating Israel. Thus a few days of rage changes nothing, and the only real thing the Palestinians should do is to sit down and hammer out a peace agreement, and negotiate to make Jerusalem their capital too. That city has been the capital since 1950, and protests and ignoring Pence changes nothing. Time to wake up to reality. Meanwhile, a few Arab leaders in other counties taling to Israel about their common enemy Iran, and thus the Palestinians are not going to get even talking support from those nations.

Palestinians greet someone let out of prison for bashing in a child's head-in like a hero.

Peace deals should not be made with such people.

"and negotiate to make Jerusalem their capital too."

They could do that. They could make their capital in East Jerusalem and the Israelis in West Jerusalem. There is nothing in the fact that the Israelis make their capital in West Jerusalem that prevents the Palestinians also making their capital there too.

The protests are infantile, counterproductive and dangerous.

If Hamas had not rocketed Israel nonstop after Sharon pulled out of Gaza, we would already haver had a 2 state solution. The Palestinians are the ones that screwed that up.
