Report: To Save The Iran Nuclear Deal, The Obama Administration Protected Hezbollah From DEA And CIA Investigations

Josh Meyer, Politico: The secret backstory of how Obama let Hezbollah off the hook

An ambitious U.S. task force targeting Hezbollah's billion-dollar criminal enterprise ran headlong into the White House's desire for a nuclear deal with Iran.

In its determination to secure a nuclear deal with Iran, the Obama administration derailed an ambitious law enforcement campaign targeting drug trafficking by the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, even as it was funneling cocaine into the United States, according to a POLITICO investigation.

The campaign, dubbed Project Cassandra, was launched in 2008 after the Drug Enforcement Administration amassed evidence that Hezbollah had transformed itself from a Middle East-focused military and political organization into an international crime syndicate that some investigators believed was collecting $1 billion a year from drug and weapons trafficking, money laundering and other criminal activities.

WNU Editor: Even now .... years after the fact .... we are still learning details on what the Obama administration did to get the Iranian nuclear deal. But turning a blind eye to Hezbollah smuggling drugs to the U.S.!?!?!?!? What was President Obama and his advisers thinking?

@WNU you mean the obama administration, not trump

Think you mean President Obama and advisors.

Hmm... I can think of a few other President's (41, 43 and Clinton) who were less than vigorous enforcing drug smuggling into the the US.

Moreover, just ask Reagan's "freedom fighters", the Contras, or any Afghan poppy farmer. Crack is a hell of a drug, right Ronny?

Correct Anon. I have corrected that.

"But turning a blind eye to Hezbollah smuggling drugs to the U.S.!?!?!?!?" Why not, Obama turned a blind eye to HSBC's laundering of billions of dollars in drug money--they were caught red handed by the DEA but there was no prosecution--as well as the role of the Big Pharma in spreading the opioid epidemic. At heart, Obama was a drug legalizer.

Anon,

You were sick back in the day. You took no medicine. So it is no surprise that you are still sick.

Anon,

I left out one thing that I know you will like.

George H.W. Bush really did fly to Iran in the belly of an SR 71.

I know this is true. Because when the SR 71 flies at the 85,000 feet it gets damn cold. So the Skunk works whipped up a a chamber to hold 1 person and provide heat and oxygen to a reading in the belly of an SR-71.

This is all true because the proof is at the Smithsonian. The chamber is on display there.

The idea behind this of course is that Obama not a good person. The nuke treaty for many of us much more central to our well being at this moment that Hezbollah and drugs. Now that even Trump seems unwilling to ditch that treaty we might ask: What has the present administration done in allowing Hezbollah and Iran to help Assad stay in power? Russia, Iran, and Hebollah now are a more immediate threat to ally Israel than nukes are, and we have done nothing to prevent that new asserstion of power in the region.

"Now that even Trump seems unwilling to ditch that treaty we might as"

"...seems unwilling ..."

Trump does something and the liberals go venue shopping and at multiple courts to ensure stays, reversals and obstruction. Trump does something and the courts say they would allow others to do it but not Trump. Trump does something like an Visa/immigration review and sunsets it after 6 months and liberals think it is a new Holocaust.

Given all that maybe Trump is picking his battles selecting some but not all, prioritizing them and getting evidence.

I did say get evidence. Obama did say he would run the most transparent administration and years later we are still finding out all the secret side deals and other shenanigans the guy did.

Trump is still working to decertify the Iran deal. He just has to do it by steps.

Now on to Iran, Hezbollah and Iran to assert power.

What can Trump do? Can he wave a wand?

Turkey is a very unreliable partner so it is not like we have a secure base. If you had been reading Anastasia O'Grady of the WSJ instead of the NYT, you would have seen Erdogan coming down the pike since 1999.

What is Trump going to use for a military? MAWs that don't fly since the Obama regime? Voting Democrat has consequences.

What about using Saudi Arabia as a secure base? The Crown Prince cracks down on corruption and then purchases the most expensive house in the world. That could be a very shaky base.

Could we use Israel as a base? You would be in a very small minority of Democrats that would not protest that. Your fellow liberals would eat you alive for advocating that. J street is anti-Israel. The campuses are rabidly anti-Israel.

We can't use Iraq as a base, because Obama negotiated in bad faith and broke the faith after so many soldiers broke bread with Iraqis. Man, oh man but did Obama piss that away.

not sure why your cop runneth over. Under Obama, our nation with a number of other key allies, arranged a nuke deal with Iran. Trump vowed to get rid of that treaty. He has not thus far. See? Simple statement. Easy to understand and not to be refuted. So why do you empty your bedroom dresser with all the animosity you seem to hoard? Perhaps spending some time in cleaning the swamp that is your Everglades of anti Democratic nonsense would allow you seem more nearly a level headed guy presenting an argument than an overweight tv wrestler flailing about in a staged show

"Trump vowed to get rid of that treaty. He has not thus far. See? Simple statement. "

Power is just not measured by a simple count of representatives and senator. Simply having 2 or 4 senators more than the Democrats is no guarantee. It is a slim margin at best when you have wobbly senators, who want to go Kennedy at the drop of a hat.

Then look at the media. Compare CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS to Fox. Those are 5 to 1 odds in favor of the 'Swamp'.

Then you have packed courts full of people who make illegal. What judge can make a ruling that a presidential action would be legal except for the fact that Trump gave it. We have judges that do just that. Dies that make sense?

Maybe the courts will get better, if more judges fall by the ways side like the leader of the 9th Circus of Appeals did. The former leader of the 9th Circus of Appeals drained himself from the morass of the swamp.

Fred, I am so happy that you support a treaty, the Iran, that cannot be verified. It gives testament to you acumen or lack thereof.
