Saudi authorities want at least $6billion from jailed Saudi Prince al-Waleed bin Talal to secure his freedom after he was arrested in a supposed anti-corruption purge.
This is the highest sum demanded so far by authorities in the Gulf state, and could involve handing over a large part of his conglomerate, Kingdom Holding Company, which has a market value of $9 billion.
Most of the princes detained at the five-star Ritz Carlton in Riyadh after being arrested in November have already paid large sums to secure their release.

It is bullshit that the crown prince buys a 300 million dollar home while asking 6 billion from Al-Waleed Bin Talal. 300 million goes into 6 billion about 20 times. The optics are wrong, the leadership is wrong and the accounting is wrong 300 million is about 5% of 6 billion. It is significant. If they are that hard up for money. Then the crown prince should get rid of his new house.
That said in the west we have claw backs at banks for bonuses that do not seemed deserved. If the court has a judgment and you do not obey they will send officers armed with guns to get you. So it is not much different. You can talk about process, but process can be corrupted. The Crown prince has not earned his 'palace'. Sure he might reduce corruption by a significant percentage or even an order of magnitude, but he has not proven it yet. Buying the palace is as stupid as giving Obama the Nobel peace prize before he did anything.
If the 'palace' was on Saudi land and he could keep the nobles there occupied, out of trouble and out of sight, then 300 million might be worth it. But I think that it is not.

The 32 year old Crown prince may have an IQ 100 to 200, but he has not down enough in 10 years to be worth a billion dollars. Really, no man has.
