The Hill: Moscow ready to work with US on Afghanistan, top Russian envoy says

A top Russian foreign ministry official said in an interview published Saturday that Moscow is ready to cooperate with the United States on Afghanistan.

Zamir Kabulov, Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy to Afghanistan, told Russia's state-run RIA news agency that Moscow has stayed in contact with Alice Wells, the acting U.S. assistant secretary of State for south and central Asian affairs and acting special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

A translation of Kabulov's interview was provided by Reuters.

WNU Editor: I know that Russia and its allies in Central Europe are worried on what is happening in Afghanistan .... Russia deploys heavy military equipment on Afghanistan-Tajikistan border (Khaama Press). But in the current Washington political environment where any cooperation with Russia is treated with suspicion and criticism .... I just do not see any possibility of such an engagement happening at anytime in 2018.

Wherever we can work with Russia we absolutely should!

Here's where we can work together:
Afghanistan
Syria
Lifting of sanctions against Russia
North Korea
Any place where ISIS is/let's kill them together!

Here's where we cannot:
Ukraine

Anon,

You had me until Ukraine. Tne chump Ukriaine government is corrupt, evil, and should be opposed with all of our strength and vigor. There's nothing to be gained by supporting such loser chumps, no loss in abandoning such loser chumps, and potential gain in abandoning such loser chumps.

Are you a "Ukrainian troll" I've been accused of being a "Russian troll" by merely suggesting that perhaps it might not be good idea to p!ss off a country with Russia's nuclear capability.

Since American leaders have foolishly chosen such a path, we can only pray and hope such stupid decisions will somehow work out. So far the Russian leadership seems to hold out such hope that America and it's leadership will act reasonably. Russians and their leaders are "weighing us in the balance" to try and determine if we are worthy of survival.

Not sure about Ukraine.
So many interested parties.
Sad.
I consider it unrealistic to expect the Russian naval base in Crimea to be willingly given up.

U.S./NATO ought to work with Russian/Former Soviet republic forces wherever possible when fighting IS AQ AS ETC.
The U.S. also ought not have broken Libya and ought not keep trying to break Syria, but I guess we'll see about that.
It would help immensely for the news to have in-depth military coverage. Maybe then platitudes like "protecting our freedoms" would not ring so hollow.
(An admittedly optimistic view.)

"American interests" never really seem to be explained.
