The Guardian: Australia unveils plan to become one of world’s top 10 arms exporters
PM spruiks jobs for local manufacturers but Tim Costello of World Vision has previously attacked policy as ‘exporting death and profiting from bloodshed’
Australia is set to become one of the world’s largest arms exporters under a controversial Turnbull government plan.
The prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, has unveiled a new “defence export strategy” setting out the policy and strategy to make Australia one of the world’s top 10 weapons exporters within the next decade.
Hailing it a job-creating plan for local manufacturers, the Coalition says Australia only sells about $1.5bn to $2.5bn in “defence exports” a year and it wants the value of those exports to increase significantly.
It has identified a number of “priority markets”: the Middle East, the Indo-Pacific region, Europe, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand.

No doubt that they will be made in China.
Look on the bright side the chinese will make it with our iron ore -) and the rest of the tech stolen from everyone else
Lol sorry Vlad, guess you don't joke about shirtfronting someone either?
Anon
I made it very clear a few weeks ago.
If one cannot add to the discussion, there is no point in commenting.
I don't care about gays, etc.. It is not a priority in my life nor for most readers of this blog. It may be a priority for you in Australia .... in that case I am sorry that I deleted your comment
You also deleted someone's "lefty" comment. Next thing you will be telling me that your site doesn't go on and on about democrats and republicans. Point being I don't believe our fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers fought and died on foreign soil just to see Australia turn queer and be run by the chinese. Perhaps some in your adopted country may relate to this.
Anon,
In the first ten years of this blog I think I deleted in total about 3 or 4 comments. And trust me on this one .... they deserved to be deleted.
I should also add that growing up in the former Soviet Union I knew what it felt like to be censored .... and I still feel this way now.
But in the past month I received a lot of emails from readers who felt that maybe I should rein in the comment thread to be more focused on what the subject is about. I thought hard about this one. I know people like to go off topic .... I do it all the time. But what made my decision easier was when I learned that Google's moderation tool was not functioning properly, and that many comments that were waiting for my A-OK were not being sent to me until a day or two later. Hence now there is no moderation except when I look at it later.
In your case .... when I looked at your comment I was too hasty in making my decision. Your comment was not rash .... just a comment on Australia's current social/political situation. And for that I apologize.
BTW. I permit both liberal and conservative points of views on this blog. I am usually in disagreement with liberals/progressives .... but that does not stop me from permitting their comments on any tread as long as they have a point to make. I am curious on what "lefty comment" that I did delete.
WNU, what relevance do lefty and gay comments have on a blog like this?
Fazman,
None.
But I do permit people to go off on topic once in a while. In a sort of way it is like blowing steam .... and in the past I have permitted it. But if gets repetitive .... yeah .... I will put a stop to it.
Lol sorry WNU went way off topic on queerness. But on the other point trust me Australia has nothing to export except for agriculture .That was a political stunt by our PM because he has lost so much face for his party after some recent freedom vote ( won't go into it again). Australia becoming a major arms exporter on our own, now that is funny! Watch out we might start selling killer kangaroos and stealth kaola's....
Bushmaster armoured vehicles for starters!
Yes Fazman I have read all your comments, please stop emberassing our service members. We are good, but not that good. If wasn't for the U.S umbrella we would have all been using chopsticks long ago. Have you actually discussed this with one of our service members?? Maybe try a sailor from any recent deployment. Full of infighting, suicide, can't wait to get out of the service, refuse to deploy. Just to name a few. It could happen with some reform that is desperately needed, is it possible we could agree on that? Quite happy to eat my words in 5 years time if there is major progress. On the other hand do we really need to be involved in exporting machines for death? I don't know of many aussies keen on that, we are still reeling from the WMD Iraq invasion. Or do you agree with our former PM Tony who wanted to take on daesh single handed until he was told to shut his mouth because we have no such capability. Perhaps sticking to what we are good at and actually standing by our farmers instead of digging up our beautiful country just to build the chinese war machine. Top grade beef, lamb, grains, wool & dairy that is what we are good at
Fazman bushmaster's maybe good now but no such much on the early years of the Afghan war. Had to be driven with TLC so as to not break drive shafts. A concept that unless you were a mechanic was hard to grasp
Also Fazman i'm sure you are aware of our Austal building the LCS. I'm sure they did the job well but it's no raving success, time will tell on that one.
Really need to look at our arms industry and the numerous success stories from middle decoys sold to the usn, to anti submarine weapons sold to the u.s, and our performance in theatres such as Afghanistan.
Sheep, and wool lol Australia us much much more than agriculture.
Missile not middle, l hate auto correct.

That applies to virtually all weapon systems, M1A2 and Merkava included, part of the reason Putin was keen to unload in Syria.
