Politico: Mattis delegates down and manages up in tricky Trump relationship

New documents shed light on the quiet influence on the commander in chief of Trump's general-turned-defense secretary.

James Mattis, the first retired general to serve as secretary of defense in seven decades, has steadily pushed more authority down the chain of command on the battlefield and inside the bureaucracy.

But he’s also managed up more than his predecessors.

By leveraging a unique level of personal rapport with President Donald Trump — and often ducking the media spotlight — Mattis has played an outsize role in keeping critical policies on track in the face of a mercurial and often bombastic commander in chief, according to half a dozen current and former administration officials and Mattis' daily schedule for the first half of the year, which the Pentagon recently released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from a watchdog group.

WNU Editor: This Politico article goes out of it sway to praise US Defense Secretary Mattis on how he "deals and manages" President Trump. I see it differently. What I see is the President implementing his management style on how the Pentagon should be managed, and it involves giving his subordinate .... US Defense Secretary Mattis .... a lot of leeway and freedom to implement the policies and directions that he (President Trump) wants. This is exactly how a CEO of a large organization works, and not surprising .... that is exactly how President Trump is working.

Bit simplified analysis, really.. you and I know that the CEO of a -large- company doesn't contribute that much, and there's ample research confirming this. In fact, I would argue, the 2nd and 3rd in command are the ones that shape the actual policies and contribute to Trump not being in 5 wars right now (North Korea, China, Russia, Iran and Mexico haha only half kidding, of course)

Yup, you’re right. Donald Trump had not contributed much as CEO (more accurately: Chairman and President) of the Trump Organization [sarcasm].

Seems as if the research you stated may have missed the mark here.

President Trump is managing by exception, which is a great way of managing, if he picked good people.

The narrators of "The Politico" are saying that Mattis is a 'good' person.

All this means is that if the reader of "The Politico" piece believes in managing by exception, then the reader thinks Trump is doing an "AWESOME JOB" and the benefit to America will be "YUGE!"

MAGA!
