North Korea Is Not Interested In Discussing Its Nuclear And Missile Program With South Korea

Bloomberg: North Korea Wins Olympics Trip, But Discord Remains Over Nuclear Weapons

* South Korea talks stumble over call for denuclearization
* Both sides agree on North Korea participating in Olympics

North Korea’s chief negotiator Ri Son Gwon struck a jovial tone as he sat down on Tuesday morning for his country’s first formal talks with South Korea in more than two years.

He joked about how the subzero temperatures reflected frosty ties and asked for the proceedings to be broadcast live -- a request South Korea turned down. A few hours later, South Korea announced that North Korea would join the Olympics next month in Pyeongchang, a ski town near their shared border.

Yet as the day wore on, and South Korea proposed talks on ending North Korea’s nuclear weapons program, the mood appeared to sour. Ri issued a “strong complaint” that Seoul dared to even raise the possibility of denuclearization at such an early stage. The subject is likely to arise again Wednesday when South Korean President Moon Jae-in holds a press briefing.

WNU Editor: The U.S. is hailing these talks .... U.S. hails Korea talks, despite North's rejection of denuclearisation (Reuters). But absent any talks on North Korea's nuclear and missile programs .... and North Korea clearly does not want to talk about it's nuclear and missile .... these talks were underwhelming.

"If the Chinese don't help, then how about we park nukes there?" Actually I've had this thought. South Korea should be nuclear armed. This actually makes the most sense for their defense needs and it should lessen the pressure on the US military.

This all may be part of the negotiations. Very respectfully I think it may be premature to call the results "underwhelming." For some reason North Korea has expressed a willingness to negotiate or at least engage a pretense of negotiating. With all that has happened and is happening that I've discussed elsewhere they may be feeling some pressure and may not feel as secure as they once did.

A North Korea that is disingenuous and is using the negotiations for nefarious purposes is a problem, if this is in fact the case. Problems create opportunities. We could use this time afforded by negotiations to build up our military capabilities and improve our homeland security which would enhance our chances if diplomacy fails.

I agree hopefully after these damned Olympics the charade is called while there is still time, and Kim gets his bloody nose and gets it into his head that for the hundredth time we are TELLING you to lose the nukes NOT asking you.

Agreed. The leopard has not changed it's spots and will not. I do not want blood but I also do not want nukes on the black market. Bored with all the fruitless talks full of lies most DEFINITELY!! Let's do what needs to be done
