Army Times: Drone swarm tactics get tryout for infantry to use in urban battlespace
The science fiction-sounding goal: Put an autonomous robot swarm of 250 or more drones under the control of light infantry soldiers or Marines to do complex tasks on the urban battlefield.
Competitors are now tackling that goal in a multi-stage event announced late last year by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Events called Sprinters are intended to develop “offensive swarm-enabled tactics” for these emerging technologies.
Swarm drone technology already exists. In 2016, the Defense Department successfully tested micro-drone swarms at China Lake, California. They dropped 103 Perdix drones from three F/A-18 Super Hornet jet fighters.

Drones are already being neutralized by electronic countermeasures. Even worse, they are being hijacked and can be used against their operators. I think its a waist of time and money to develop these strategies. Soon, even inferior militaries will have adequate countermeasures on the cheap. I don't see a future for combat drones due to the risks...

Long ago a Star Trek episode had Captain Kirk "mediate" between two worlds that had been at war for generations. Being evenly matched there could be no ultimate victory for either so they had perfected a process that ended the destruction and messy death issues. They used computers to wage war and when one's computer defeated the other's defenses and inflicted "a hit" the people that were inside the parameter of the hit area had to report to a center to be "neutralized".
Regarding the wars on Earth, as Pierre Trudeau once said, "The universe is unfolding as it should."
Right Mark. Eventually it is possible that there will be no advantage, or very little for war mongering nations.
