The Syrian Government Cannot Pay Its Debts To Russia And Iran
Michael Weiss, Daily Beast: Deadbeat Dictator: Assad Isn’t Paying His Debts to Putin
As the Syrian president piles up IOUs with the Kremlin and the mullahs of Iran, he’s hoping he can cover the debts with Syrian oil. But Moscow wants its money now.
To the charges against Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad of mass murder, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity can now be added another compelling allegation: He’s a deadbeat.
According to a classified Western intelligence report seen by The Daily Beast, the Syrian regime currently owes the Russian government $60 million for a consignment of crude oil imported last October, and, while Damascus insists it’s got the money to settle its debt—apparently, it’s all “cash” and tied up domestically—it’s nevertheless stalling for time while also asking for another shipment of Russian crude, and at a reduced price no less.

WNU Editor: If the Syrian government cannot pay bills and cover it current debts .... there is no way in hell it will be able to raise the tens of billions of dollars that will be necessary to rebuild the country. The war may be winding down, but the future for the country looks very bleak.

No problem! Assad can file for bankruptcy like pres. Dips#$t did 4 times and become pres. of the good ole' US of A!
MAGA! Problem solved! Way to go rubes!
I wonder If his feet get sore sometimes so he can dodge the draft and send some poor rubes to go fight in his place in Idlib.
With this kind of problem, Syria will go sooner or later to a "broken country" as Somalia.
Without the money, lets see if Assad gets another hug from Putin or not. Do you really think Putin will keep financing this war? Can it? Russia has a GDP of Italy. Italy is one of the smaller countries in the EU. I say LOL
Actually what will probably happen is 1.) Russia and Iran will simply take it over and take whatever they want to pay off the debts, 2.) If the assets are insufficient, take what they can and occupy key regions that serve their interests while the remainder becomes ISIS/Al Qaida territory that is used to launch attacks on America and the "west," or 3.) Loot what they can, leave, and the country becomes ISIS/Al Qaida territory that is used to launch attacks on America and the "west."
"Russia has a GDP the sizeo f Italy." Very respectfully the size of a nation's economy is not of particular importance when comparing war fighting capabilities of nations. Should war between America and Russia become hot America's economy would be obliterated very quickly. That statistic along with how much money nations spend on their military gets way to much attention. Such analysis are at best incomplete.
Common, bposter. :) Even Russians like you need money to buy food, and make the economy work. Therefore GDP matters. We can of course adjust it for Purchase power parity (PPP) but even then it's ridiculous for you to suggest GDP doesn't matter. You've done so before and that doesn't make it right just because you keep repeating nonsense. Or did you forget why your motherland became bankrupt in 1991? End of Soviet. Did not understand economics lol. Similarities to bposter? Plenty! So much wow. Haha :))
The war is nearly completed, Assad need to look at ways to build a functional profitable nation from the ruins. With the very real threat of international pressure he has to do it in a way to impress.
The war hasn't even started yet anonymous, lol!
I'm not Russian I've already explained this. What i said was the gdp is overrated. PPP as well, as high and low numbers skew it. I did not say it doesn't matter. Very respectfully please try reading the posts before comnenting.
Many American like myself disagree with the current policies towards Russia. We see no value in policies that go out of their way to antagonize them. This along with huge downside risks in doing so make such policies beyond stupid. In summary, it's simply not a good idea to pick a fight with a major military power who is armed yo the teeth with thousands of highly advanced nuclear weapons for no good reason.
While there may be a time and a place where it might be necessary, cbumps like Ukraine, Poland, and name your cbump former Soviet Republic and former eastern bloc country are not worth it. They contribute nothing of value to us and the costs of them are enormous to us.
