Business Insider: 38 minutes of panic: Here's how people in Hawaii reacted to a false ballistic missile alert

* Hawaiians received a false alarm on Saturday warning of an inbound ballistic missile and causing instant, widespread panic.
* The alert was apparently caused by an employee at Hawaii's Emergency Management Agency pushing the "wrong button" by accident.
* A second alert clarifying that there was no missile threat to Hawaii did not come until 38 minutes after the initial false alarm.

Residents and vacationers in Hawaii awoke Saturday morning to a stunning emergency alert blaring across the screens of their smartphones: "BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL."

There was no missile. The alert was a false alarm, Hawaii's US senators said on Twitter as they rushed to tamp down the hysteria that ensued. The alert was sent out when an employee mistakenly pressed the "wrong button" during a shift change at Hawaii's Emergency Management Agency, Hawaii Gov. David Ige later said.

Unprepared?

Certainly.

But why talk about it?

Talking about it will get you tagged as a prepper (survivalist in a previous incarnation), and you will be looked at as a dangerous, racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe or militia member.

Prepper would be said with the same tone of voice that is used to enunciate tea party, teabagger, Murrican, etc.

While prepping for millions of people will be useless, because they would be ground zero, for millions of others, it would save their life to have a plan and some resources. You can combine the effort with that needed for natural disaster such a earthquakes, blizzards, & hurricanes. If it is considered proper to 'prep; for natural disasters it should be kosher to prep for EMP or a nuke strike (Man-caused disaster in the parlance used by the cowards like Janet Napolitano, who will use the longest euphemistic phrase possible insteads of calling a thing by its name). By 2014 the Obamites got around to saying some prepping was okay (6 years into the administration; Fast learners)

Tornado protection can double as a fallout shelter in many cases or with modification.
