Politico: White House to Congress: Russia sanctions not needed now
The Trump administration informed lawmakers Monday that new Russia sanctions called for in a bipartisan bill passed last year are not necessary yet because the measure is already "serving as a deterrent."
The announcement came as lawmakers in both parties nudged the administration to implement a sanctions legislation that passed overwhelmingly in July — with only five no votes in both the House and Senate. The sanctions bill requires the imposition of penalties by Monday against entities doing "significant" business with Moscow's defense and intelligence sectors, unless Congress is notified that prospective targets are "substantially reducing" that business.

Trump just unified his enemies. Big mistake!
American paranoia, now the US is slapping sanctions on every Russian billionaire. If this isnt russophobia, then I don't know what it is
All the sanctions accomplish is to hasten the inevitable end of the US dollar in its role as world reserve currency and all but ensure the "hard landing" we should be trying to avoid when it does happen. Sanctions may have utility against small weak countries who lack allies. Against large powerful countries and people who have substantial power and deep alliances such as nations like Russia have sanctions are not only going to be ineffective but they have negative utility.
AJ: Trump's enemies have already been unified. They are simply to stupid to capitalize. Can one brilliant person fight off several hundred or more idiots? We shall see, I suppose.
MM: Not only is this ridiculous but it all started based upon a myth of Russian interference in the election. Certain petty sore losers also upset very careful and meticulous diplomacy in the process. Unfortunately POTUS begin in the right direction but sadly has lost his way now. At least by opposing more sanctions might be construed as a baby step in the right direction.
The sanctions not only will not work as powerful individuals like the Russian billionaires will easily find ways around them and the billionaires became such because people want to do business with them. As such, their customers and suppliers will circumvent the sanctions easily as well. Such moves on the part of the US only serve to undercut its interests as it alienates some of the world's most powerful people and countries. Furthermore it hastens the end of the US dollar in its role as world reserve currency all but ensuring a hard landing when it does occur. We need to be striving for a soft landing.
The Greeks said "whomever the gods wish to destroy they first make mad?" America's leaders have obviously gone insane. Has God marked them for destruction? Will the American people be spared such destruction?
