The pertinent questions to be asked are:
Whose idea was this drill?
Who gave the final authorization for this drill?
Who had direct responsibility for the operation?
If this was not a drill then:
Who was charged with dissemination of the alert?
Why did it take so long to correct the alarm?
Whose job is it to verify the alarm?
The above questions need to be asked and answered publicly. Someone did not do their job and they need to find another one.
I will repeat my belief that this was no "mistake".
I wonder how partisan state government is in the State of Hawaii?
If it had been a Republican governor, what would the press have done?
If the employee's party registration is known, what tack will the press take?
James asked too many inconvenient questions.
I was happier with the fat finger explanation and with the press just opportunistically happy to dogpile the president.
If it was a fat finger, they would have fired the person unless the were related to the governor or someone high up and even then they might fire them.
Now I am interested.
Did the state or feds initiate this?
We need a time line and not the one given. We need a time line of what was happening at the Hawaiian Emergency Management Agency (HEMA).
Update:
It is being reported now that the person who "pushed the wrong button" is being reassigned. Also it is being reported that the wrong button was not pushed just once, but twice.
