The Hill: Ex-CIA director: US meddles in foreign elections for a 'very good cause'
Following a federal indictment of Russians accused of meddling in the U.S election, a former CIA director on Friday said the U.S. “probably” meddles in other countries’ elections, as well.
The Russian embassy flagged his comments.
When asked whether the U.S. interferes in other countries’ elections, James Woolsey said, “Well, only for a very good cause in the interests of democracy."
“Oh, probably, but it was for the good of the system in order to avoid communists taking over,” he told Laura Ingraham on her Fox News show on Friday night.
Woolsey served as CIA director under former President Clinton.

Does anyone think that the 1953 coup in Iran, run by the CIA and MI-6, was for the good of the Iranian people? if anyone does, they're sorely deluded. It was run for the good of British Petroleum.
Some analysis of Iran in 1953 suggest that the role of the CIA in this was overrated. In any event, Iran can solve all outstanding issues on this very quickly. Take the case before a UN Tribunal. They won't. There getting far more benefit right now to having America as a foreign devil.
So called "nationalization" can be a problem. Iran might have some uncomfortable questions to answer especially should US leadership actually fight for American interests instead of capitulating as seems to be the norm. As stated, Iran won't go this route right now. They get more benefit out of having America as a foreign devil.
I guess you'd have to ask yourself, "What is the purpose of US foreign policy?" Its for the furtherance of US interests - or its supposed to be anyway. The foreign policy of Russia or China is to definitely further their interests. There has been meddling and espionage between US, Russia, China for decades.
And in answer to the RT stenographer's assertion that "we are the good cops". He is absolutely right.
