Polygraph: Zakharova Downplays Armed Clash with Americans in Syria, Kremlin-linked Audio Recordings Contradict Her Story
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova is the only Russian government official who has publicly confirmed that five people, “presumably” Russian citizens, were killed in an armed clash with U.S. forces near Deir el-Zour in Syria.
Opposition leaders inside Russia, as well as Russian and Western media reports, dispute Zakharova’s comments.
Polygraph.info has obtained audio recordings from a source close to the Kremlin who said the Russian casualties were personnel from a private Russian military company who attempted to capture an oil refinery in Syria.
“So, one squadron f**** lost 200 people…right away,” said one of three mercenary soldiers. “Another one lost 10 people… and I don’t know about the third squadron but it got torn up pretty badly, too.”
Most news reports cite similar casualty figures.
The incident took place on the night of February 7-8, a week before Zakharova’s briefing in Moscow.
The U.S. said its forces acted in self-defense – in response to an offensive by what were assumed to be pro-Assad forces.

WNU Editor: I do not know if these audio recordings are true .... or is it leaked by someone within the Kremlin (if true, clearly someone who wants to embarrass Putin) .... but I would not be surprised if it is accurate, and a very revealing look on how a mission can be completely f*****ed-up. This is my must read post for today.

If it wasn't for the professionalism of the US army, a Russian attack like that could have easily started something bigger. Imagine the Russians would have been able to overrun the base and kill most inside. ..it would require a tit-for-tat response that could easily cause things to spiral out of control. It's exactly this kind of stuff that can get wars started. Now the Russians prevented nuclear war during the cold war at least once and we're all remembering it. But this attack on the us Base was madness and there need to be some consequences
