The Taliban Have Pen A Letter To The American People Calling For Dialogue

VOA: Afghan Taliban Pen Open Letter to Americans, Call for Dialogue

ISLAMABAD — The Taliban, in an “open letter” to the American people has called for dialogue to end the prolonged Afghan war, claiming increased U.S. military airstrikes have not "retaken even a single inch of land" from the insurgency.

Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, released copies of the 10-page document Wednesday in several languages, detailing insurgent gains and so-called failures of the “illegitimate” U.S.-led invasion, now in its 17th year.

The insurgent group has written the letter with the hope American people, independent groups and “the peace loving Congressmen” will read it “prudently” to evaluate the future of their military mission in Afghanistan.

WNU Editor: The Taliban have never been serious about dialogue or finding common ground to end the Afghan war. This is a new strategy on their part to encourage opposition to the Afghan war in the U.S. and elsewhere.

" The U.S. has never been serious about dialogue or finding common ground to end the Afghan war." I'm sure that sentence would resonate in Afghanistan. You should recall that the putative grounds for invasion were not to increase Poppy Bu$h's income, but to reflect outrage over the Taleban not turning over a Saudi prince and C.I.A. paymaster without requested legal documentation of charges. Since the F.B.I. never found Osama bin Laden involved in the 9-11 scenario in NYC - nor did the U.S. comply with legal/diplomatic niceties - a characterization of the U.S. being unserious about productive dialogue is no more than candid assessment.
