BRUSSELS/PARIS (Reuters) - Britain, France and Germany have proposed fresh EU sanctions on Iran over its ballistic missiles and its role in Syria’s war, according to a confidential document, in a bid to persuade Washington to preserve the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran.

The joint paper, seen by Reuters, was sent to European Union capitals on Friday, said two people familiar with the matter, to sound out support for such sanctions as they would need the support of all 28 EU member governments.

The proposal is part of an EU strategy to save the accord signed by world powers that curbs Tehran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons, namely by showing U.S. President Donald Trump that there are other ways to counter Iranian power abroad.

WNU Editor:  The proposed extra sanctions will be targeting Iranian officials. But my gut is telling me that the the Trump administration wants more.

What are the consequences if Trump decides against the treaty as presently constituted? Iran is firmly in Syria, via Hezbollah and so too Russia. With or without that treaty they will remain

Iran is not firmly in Syria if the home front collapses.

When will the home front collapse? we won't be there either if our home front collapses. Nor will any other nation there as proxy if its home front collapes

I think the most important thing is to separate the nork and iran because if we drove them , iran with sanction
The nork talk collapse . 2020 both will have nuclear bomb ready .
Aizino , even the USSR killed 100 million of it citizens using famine ,golag and still continued for 73 years
States and ideologies collapse , religious states rarely. Penning hope in regime collapse is bad policy.

Ha! Religious states just change shapes. Worst likeness ever.

Fred,

Read the "Golden Fleece" and tell me Iran having nukes is a good thing.

Just overlook the fact that the author is Canadian. We must make allowances.

Beside an out right war , you cant prevent a country "determined" on getting nuke from getting it .
Even the Iran deal is a pause on the program
If Ayatollah regime collapse , the next regime will never forfeit the nuke (with the medest like this )

Yeah Anon.

I am sure there was no pressure whatsoever.

I remember a friend going on and on about the unholy trinity of Taiwan, South Africa and Israel and nuke development.

Taiwan does not have nukes. Could it be U.S. pressure? A no nuke pledge in return for the U.S.'s protection?

That would make 3 nations.
