Did President Trump's Policy Force North Korea To The Negotiating Table?

Business Insider: Kim Jong Un appears to have totally caved to Trump's pressure — but it could be a trap

* South Korea says North Korea appeared to make huge concessions to advance potential talks with the US.
* It's possible Kim Jong Un caved in to President Donald Trump's pressure campaign, but it's also possible the move is a trick.
* North Korea has entered into denuclearization talks with the US before, only to back out and cash in on warmed relations during the talks.

South Korea's president's office reported on Tuesday that North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un, said he was willing to talk to the US about dismantling his country's nuclear program in what looks like a huge concession to mounting international pressure.

Specifically, the Blue House, South Korea's version of the White House, laid out five specific points North Korea agreed to.

WNU Editor: The right question should be .... if President Trump did not put pressure on North Korea by imposing tough sanctions, would the North Koreans be at the negotiating table right now. I think the answer would be no.

How is this question even being asked?, seriously if Trump pulls this off he must be considered for the Nobel peace prize.
This is all trumps doing, from calling Kim's bluff, addressing him as fat boy, rocket man etc, threatening a,preemptive strike and putting sanctions in place.

Fazman, it might be so. But truthfully this looks more of the same and is an expected move from Kim's side. Here's why:

1. We all expected that Kim either a) truly caves in and changes or b) pretends to do so to buy time. Option c ) "do more tests now while the fighting season (after harsh winter) starts" is not something observers expected.

To unite both Koreas (under force or that of force, with the backing of China - who sold them everything from the rocket fuel to military tech and who see north Korea as a better model than pro-western/pro-US south Korea) kim needs to still improve missile guidance and payload weight capabilities. He's probably a few months away from credibly threatening the east coast - San Francisco and silicon valley (!) - and making good on his threats too, given the piss poor reliability of US missile shield as we've seen over and over again.

At this point, the Korea question will be about risking trillions and trillions in dollars and the future of the US as a super power (AI key research is IN silicon Valley and SF!)..

China only losses in this game if the US manages to prevent a unification under the south. Which is very very costly. China wins regionally if the US fails,as south Korea and US/western influence is gone. China wins the world if Kim manages to nuke the east coast/silicon Valery.

That's why china is still going along with this unless the World calls it out ob selling the military tech to north Korea and on top weakening sanctions AND on double top threatening the US with war if it were to invade north Korea in order to get rid of the missiles and tech China gave the north.

It's chess, not checkers

I agree with all your points, and l believe he's buying for time and cash and playing moon like a puppet.
But if this is legit(big if) Trump deserves the credit.

Why if Trump responsible has the North stated that Americans will not be a part of discussions? It is representatives from the South and not from US that had met and will meet with the North people. America merely blust ered and applied endless sanctions that seemingly do not work.

Trump was the reason , but for different reasons than his pressure and unpredictability .
The north has seen for the first time since the Korean war , US and south Korea are not on the same page , this is the reason for all the PR movement the north has been doing which i have to say seemed out of place for them . All north diplomacy will be to increase this fissure
wait when the north offer south concession and US refuse and thing get interesting

Should the Americans be directly in the negotiating room at this point, "face" on the part of the North Koreans could not be saved and they'd be forced to break off negotiations even tnough it serves their interests. Saving "face" is important to all humans regrdless of culture.

Strength, weakness? I don't know. A good debate for another time. They've spent much time and energy portraying the US as the great enemy. To be seen now negotiating with an enemy they've demonized and threatened to destroy repeatedly would be devestating to the North Korean leadership.

Should Kim agree to on paper to allow Americans anywhere near the negotiating table at this point his generals would likely execute him, his family, and his beloved sister. It actually amazes me how some very smart people who normally post here fail to get basic international diplomacy.

I'm pretty sure the South Koreans are keeping us fully informed of any and all developments complete with meticulous note takers who are sharing everything in real time with SK and US leaders. I've explained elsewhere what would happen should South Korea betray us. If I get this, I'm pretty sure the deal maker does. Tbese people don't exactly have a good track record. DJT correctly called them out during the campaign.

Fred needs evidence. The most commonly sited reason is "cracks in the relationship." I just thought of something. DJT did call SK out during the campaign. SK has used and abused us for decades. Perhaps if they knew such use and abuse would not be allowed to continue, they might try and MAKE PEACE. Knowing the US military might not always be available as their pawns and as an arm of their policy might be highly motivating as a "kick in the as!" to GO IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION!!"

With that said such abuse to America is most undignifying. To become POTUS is hard. Such people aren't used to being abused in this manner. As such, I'm pretty sure SK has been confronted in the past. For those who have been abused much courage is required to break away.

The only new variables are sanctuons supported by China and Russia and an American POTUS who is highly skilled negotiator who has shown a willingness to stand up to foreign powers who would abuse us.

Fazman is absolutely correct. Of course as I and the editor have pointed out DJT will never be considered. It doesn't matter. Peace will be achieved and those who matter will know the truth. Of course the "true believers" will act to undercut all of this in much the same way they destroyed a careful and meticulous diplomatic process with Russia. Had this diplomatic process succeeced, we might not be where we are now with NK. Of course for the "true believers" none of this matters!! DJT MUST BE UNDERMINED!! AMERICAN NATIONAL SECURITY AND THE LIVES OF AMERICANS BE DAMMED!! After all they are "deplorables." Who cares about them? Of course the elites unless they can leave the country and the enemy they went out of their way to create will somehow suddenly embrace tnem they will not survive either. Of course those who are filled with hatred lack rational thought. Such people need to be opposed by any and all means possible.
