The Royal Navy 'stands ready' to protect Britain's fisheries after taking delivery of the first of five state of the art gunboats, the Defence Secretary has claimed.
Gavin Williamson said the introduction to the fleet of HMS Forth showed Britain was ready for its future as a newly independent coastal nation.
The Government will hope the delivery of the ship - a River Class Offshore Patrol Vessel - will calm fears in fishing communities Brexit will not regain full control of the nation's fishing waters.
Concessions in the Brexit transition deal provoked a huge row this week with one Tory MP branding them worse than a 'cup of cold sick'.

Useless for anything other than stopping fishing boats. Nonexistent anti ship, anti sub, anti missile, and anti aircraft capabilities.
