BBC: Russia 'arming the Afghan Taliban', says US
Russia is supporting and even supplying arms to the Taliban, the head of US forces in Afghanistan has told the BBC.
In an exclusive interview, Gen John Nicholson said he'd seen "destabilising activity by the Russians."
He said Russian weapons were smuggled across the Tajik border to the Taliban, but could not say in what quantity. Russia has denied such US allegations in the past, citing a lack of evidence.
But the new claims come at a sensitive time in Russia's ties with Nato powers.

WNU, as an old school russian, what is your comment about this (suppose its true)?
I think HILLIARY is arming them.
Hans,
The Russian public hate the Taliban. Too many bad memories from the 1980s. If the Kremlin is found to be supporting the Taliban .... Putin may have just won the election, but he will have to get use to being booed, whistled, and heckled in public for the rest of his term.
Does it matter at this point what Russians love or hate? It is what Putin wants that matters..and his oligarchs...
Editor,
I almost responded to Hans based upon my memory of what you said but waited because I was not sure if my memory was correct.
Drawing my own conclusion from this based upon my readings and what you have posted here essentially for a man of Putin's stature and for the Kremlin in general support for the Taliban has no upside along with huge downside risk. As such, the Kremlin is not supporting them. At the very least this is an extraordinary claim to which extraordinary proof will need to be supplied. I think US leaders have made these allegations before. In a normal world, proof needs to be supplied. It's long past time for these people to supply the proof or sit down and STFU!! Until such time the only conclusion seems to be that this more reckless anti-Russian messaging.
Love that putin

It matters if you are an American
Fred,
I'm assuming your "love that Putin" comment was directed at me. You're losing an argument based on its merits and you are losing badly. What do you do? You accuse someone of insulting you or you accuse someone of something that is clearly false in attempt to discredit them as is the case here. This will work with those who are lazy, ideologically blind, or don't have time to read.
It's proxy war no one will win. The Americans know fully well Putin and Pakistan are arming the Taliban just as they did when the Russians were in Afghanistan and with the current US/Russia relations nothing can be done about that. Sanctions on Russia won't make Putin back down but will only intensify his resolve
