Venezuela's Power Grid Is Breaking Down
Reuters: Venezuela begins power rationing as drought causes severe outages
SAN CRISTOBAL, Venezuela (Reuters) - Venezuela imposed electricity rationing this week in six western states, as the crisis-hit country’s creaky power grid suffered from a drought that has reduced water levels in key reservoirs needed to run hydroelectric power generators.
The four-hour formal outages began on Thursday. But many residents scoffed at the announcement, wryly noting that they have been suffering far more extended blackouts during the last week.
“We have spent 14 hours without electricity today. And yesterday electricity came and went: for six hours we had no power,” said Ligthia Marrero, 50, in the western state of San Cristobal, noting that her fridge had been damaged by the frequent interruptions.
Crumbling infrastructure and lack of investments have hit Venezuela’s power supply for years. Now, the situation has been exacerbated by dwindling rains.

So sad what is happening in this country, but a great case study in what NOT to do.
what not to do: make sure then that there is no drought, the cause, according to the post, that has caused this crisis...any tips on how to avoid a drought?
"Venezuela's Power Grid Is Breaking Down"
Again?
That was a thing 10 years ago before the toilet paper crisis, which the communitards have now solved the problem quite neatly as people are no longer eating. They are starving.
I bet Fred has not considered the repair and upkeep of the generators.
With the same amount of water you can get more electricity of the generators are in proper repair.
But why would a PhD in the soft, mushy science concern himself with something as mundane as windings.
So much easier to simply and solely blame drought.
Maybe Fred could run for the 25th NY congressional district as a carpet bagger. It would be the same dif. Then we could get his nostrum all day every day.
The result is that the Venezuelan communist government is to blame for the power shortage.
Just as drought is natural, but famine is man made; drought is natural and power shortages are man made.
Ah! The latest fruit of socialism, for all to see. The same inescapable results of Socialism can be seen in the parts of the US run by the Liberal Democrats/(Socialists) for an extended period--Detroit, Baltimore, Oakland, etc...breakdown and decay. This is what the corrupt Bernie Sanders would offer the USA...yet the millennial's unfortunate enough to be"educated"/indoctrinated by the Democratic-controlled public school teacher's Unions think BS is a great guy, which bodes ill for the future of the US.
The toilet paper crisis have been solved.
(1) starve the population.
(2) the people can't take a crap.
(3). No longer needed toilet paper.problem solved.
Where is Young Communist, when you need him?
Where is YC telling us that you do not need to maintain generators. All you need to is open and close the penstocks and voila instant energy?
I have seen companies make a conscious decision to defer maintenance on re-roofing a building, because of a bad business climate. I also saw them put plastic over machinery due to leak the next year. Yet they made a conscious decision to defer maintenance and considered the risks, the bottom line etc.
I suspect that Maduro and company were too busy lining their pockets and also being inept at running anything larger than a lemonade stand. Truth be told they could not run a lemonade stand too.
Even the mighty Jay said part of the problem was people in Hugo Chavez's government looted the country and then fled with the money. After the corpulent, powder addicted Hugo passed away, the even less competent Maduro took over. So the B team is running the country into the ground and/or looting it.
Refurbishng generators is not that hard. The commies just did not want to spend the money no be bothered. Even Jay judging from his college degree could have got the job done on time, in budget. Scheduling maintenance is not rocket science.
Everyone needs your wisdom smith
Ben suck ok I agree
Communism sucks I agree
Most south am countries in trouble and not communist and have working generators can you generate anything but venom and nastiness?
The more Leftists a South American country had in the past and the percentage of Leftists in numbers and numbers of groups is a good indication of how much trouble South American nations are in now.
Brasil for example had or has Leftist running it. Rousseff ring a bell?
She is a damn snot nosed communist from day one. I must say she had a little more training of running things than Obozo did. I do note that dear old Rousseff, a girl from Mina Gerais somehow got down to Porto Alegre in southern Brasil. I would like to know how. She picked the whitest, white city in Brasil to learn the ropes of running (ruining?) a city.
Pick any other South America country and there are any number of communist murderers making life Hell for citizens or have had a hand of running government.
Come on Fred if you can't learn electrical matters than at least make a small attempt at learning South American history.
"Ben suck ok I agree"
Who is ben?
Aizino Smith is quite correct when he attributes problems in South America to Communists/Socialistss/Leftists and might I add Democrats/Progressives/Liberals, they are all birds of a feather, and their policies all end in the same result--ruin.
