Gordon G. Change, Daily Beast: Why China Will Lose a Trade War With Trump
Beijing can huff and puff, but America holds the high cards. Expect the Chinese to back down quickly—or watch their economy and political system fall apart.
“Let me assure those people who intend to fight a trade war,” Cui Tiankai, China’s ambassador to the U.S., told China Daily, Beijing’s official English-language newspaper. “We will certainly fight back. We will retaliate. If people want to play tough, we will play tough with them and see who will last longer.”
Most assume, as trade frictions intensify, that China will outlast the U.S.—yet it is America, because it runs persistent trade deficits and for other reasons, that will likely eventually prevail.

WNU Editor: The above author (Gordon G. Chang) has been predicting the doom of China for as long as I can remember .... but China is not only still here, but over the years it has gotten stronger. But on this issue he is right .... and we are starting to see China respond to President Trump's actions and threats .... China talks concessions after Trump's tough trade moves (Washington Times). But will this produce tangible results, and will China make real concessions .... as I had mentioned in a previous post .... I have my doubts.

What are peoples thoughts on the recent creation of the petroyuan?
WNU your analysis is a bit weak here.. China has not gotten "stronger and stronger, but I'd argue they've gotten weaker and lost a lot of opportunities.
Here's why:
Strength is not only measured by GDP (also their economy is slowing down, and they got the risks of a trade war coming up but that's not the point). China has annoyed the entire APAC community and made enemies through their bullying. All strategic mistakes - they threatened Vietnam with war, hardened Australia's stance to them because of their spying and meddling in the same country, they certainly pissed of Japan who is now for the first time ever strongly militarizing again and the list goes on.. does this look like a "stronger China" to you still?
On top they threatened India with war just last month. Still looking so strong? China has made enemies left and right and therefore risked their super power potential. You cannot be a super power if on your own continent - your home - you make so many enemies. It leaves you vulnerable as f*ck. Where can Chinese go for help in case of war? NOrth Korea perhaps.. that's the last place they've got left for sure and it's rules by an unstable person who may not live to see the end of this year, mind you. So who do they have left? No one. That's why they are much weaker than you say and they are not "stronger". Some numbers indicate that they are, like gdp, new missiles etc. But alliances? F*ck no. they are singled out
