Donald Trump said on Friday evening he had ordered 'precision strikes' on Syria in retaliation for the 'evil and despicable' poison gas attack that killed at least 60 people on April 7.
'A short time ago, I ordered the United States Armed Forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad,' Trump said in a televised address from the White House.
'These are not the actions of a man. They are crimes of a monster instead,' Trump said referring to Assad and his role in the chemical weapons attacks.'

We've participated in a military operation against Syria with even less rationale and even more questionable evidence than that which led to the Iraq war. What could possibly go wrong?
Actually I predicted as part of a diplomatic "face saving" process the US military would be allowed to conduct a light show that does no real damage. By having "alied" forces participate in the light show this further helps America to save face.

For what this worth, the primary intel for this seems to have come from the British and the French. While US intel may have been consulted, these aren't particularly competent and should never be trusted by anyone as a primary source.

You raise interesting points. At this point, conspiracy theories are a "bridge to far" for me. With that said the instinct of POTUS to get us out of Syria, to respect Russia, engage them, and treat them as equals was/is absolutely the correct policy. To those who espouse the views you suggested, POTUS would be an extreme threat to them. This could explain the increasingly unhinged and irrational opposition to him.
Also, with his enemies closing in on him getting ready to go in for the kill how might this be affecting his performance? Could he be being blackmailed into taking positions he knows are improper? As I stated, conspiracy theories are a bridge to far for me at this time.
At this point, I stand by original hyporhesis. The US military is being allowed to conduct a light show that causes no real harm as part of the diplomatic face saving process. By having US "allies" participate this further helps the face saving process for America.

It is hard to say some species is in danger of extinction, when its number are monotonically increasing, but I am willing to bet there are those who would debase the English language a la 1984 in order to make their point.
