Never said when an attack on Syria would take place. Could be very soon or not so soon at all! In any event, the United States, under my Administration, has done a great job of ridding the region of ISIS. Where is our “Thank you America?”— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 12, 2018
WNU Editor: There have been a lot of reports that last week's chemical attack was a "false flag". The Russian military now control the area, and have publicly made a commitment to invite UN inspectors to investigate the attack (which they are claiming did not happen). Adding to all of this, U.S. Defense Secretary Mattis raised some eyebrows yesterday when he did not blame Syrian President Assad for launching a chemical attack .... U.S. Still Assessing Intelligence on Syria Chemical Attack: Mattis (US News and World Report/Reuters). I never like seeing a leader of a nation make a commitment to do one thing, and then do another. But on this one .... I will applaud President Trump if he makes the decision to not initiate actions over Syria until all the evidence is in, and that U.S. national security concerns and interests are the priority and not because a bunch of U.S. politicians/media/pundits/etc. tell him to do so. Either way .... we are going to find out in the next few days on what is going to happen.
Update: Trump says Syria attack 'could be very soon or not so soon' (Reuters)

What a sigh of relief. I'll stand behind a missile strike when, and only when it is proven who attacked, and if the attack ever happened at all. If it is the rebels who staged it, then we are supporting terrorist, and we need to drop the hammer on them just like we almost dropped on assad.
Its possible behind the scenes the diplomats and soldiers realised the possible implications and were horrified to actually go through with it.Actual war between two nuclear armed nations is something that no one wants and someone maybe said 'let's stop this before its too late'.
Or maybe he's taking his own advise and tried not to televise it.
France has made it clear, they will act unilaterally even before trump spoke of it.
If there was no strike coming l duo t the u.k would be holding a cabinet sumit and moving subs into position.
Lol. Pres. blithely tweets about launching illegal strikes on a country we occupy illegally all the while 1400 hundred miles away in Yemen, the US is complicit in an ongoing war crime.
What ever dreadful fate awaits the US during its inexorable decline, it's well deserved.
Russian troll above
Scott grow up
Fred,
Anyone who disagrees with your position is a "Russian troll?!?!" This hardly seems a stance to take if one is to have honest dialogue. There are a number of Americans, myself being among them who do not think based upon the evidence we have been presented that a military strike on Syria is justified.
The risks involved with a military strike on Syria combined with the possible benefits or more specifically what seems to be the lack thereof mean this is an endeavor that should be pursued with extreme caution. This is no small matter. The Russians and their allies would respond with extreme prejudice to such an attack. Some in their insane desire to stoke tensions don't think that through.
As I predicted yesterday and as of right now, it appears we have pulled back from the abyss. We may even get a real investigation into what actually happened. This is likely part of how each side gets something of value that they want. As for the crazies in America and the "west" who are itching for a fight with Russia, what will they do next? We shall see.
Perhaps it is you who needs to "grow up" M. Lapides. Let the adults handle adult matters.
Fazman,
"France has made clear they will act unilaterally even before Trump spoke of it." Really?!?! If so, France is beyond nuts. Pipsqueak France using conventional forces couldn't even handle Bashar Assad's Syria in a one on one fight. They are going to risk a conflict with one of the world's top military powers like Russia. I don't think so. If they said such things that would be even more ridiculous than the bluster of POTUS.
My hunch is POTUS's egged on by idiots in DC perhaps in concert with his enemies closing in on him he felt he needed to seem tough combined with his natural tendency to move his mouth faster than his brain and lo and behold his rhetoric became overheated to quickly!! He needed a "face saving" way to step back from the abyss. I think the Israelis provided back channel for negotiations. I think we owe the Israelis one.
France could easily destroy Assad one on one, he did state he,would ensure Russian assets, are not targeted.
How is,trump saying lm not giving the timing of an attack become there will be no attack?

B Poster tell me again how France is miniscule and unable to fight Syria one in one?
Let's not even discuss how there aircraft and naval assets, are amongst the world's finest.
Watch the western nations get caught in their own fabricated lies. Western trolls like Fred deep throat any info they get. Bunch of useless sheep
Fazman,
Thank you for the reply to may posts.:-) The dialogue is very much appreciated. Due to my work schedule at present time does not permit a detailed response at the moment. Time permitting I will reply with a more detailed response later in the day or this evening. If I am unable to address these issues on this thread, I am sure there will be other opportunities.:-)
Part of the deal appears to be that Russia will and has assumed control of the area. This will ensure future attacks cannot originate from this area if we assume one actually occurred. Also, UN inspectors will be allowed to conduct an investigation into this. While I do NOT trust the UN and trusting the Russians would be dubious at best, this does allow POTUS a graceful way to step down. In fact, his supporters could even credit Trump diplomacy for this development. Essentially they could claim that this brash and tough talk got the Russians and others moving towards working towards a resolution to this. They might even be right.
Treason Tribble gave Putin all the warning and time Putin needed to backfoot the US and it's Allies.

That's what Agents for a Foreign Government do, so who's surprised.
So now, the US and the West have only three options:
- roll over and abandon Syria, the Baltics and the Ukraine, and many other areas of influence to Russia,
- wait it out for a couple months and strike Syrian assets when they stop using the Russians as human shields, taking the loss of influence and relevance in stride until then,
- strike Syrian assets using Russians as human shields in the hopes that Russia won't escalate into a wider conflict.
A Wag the Dog strike on an empty Syrian Base won't cut it again, even for the Deplorables.
Treason Tribble will do what Putin tells him to do, which is roll over and present his yellow belly. It's a two-fer, as it let's the rest of NATO and other US Global Allies know that they are completely on their own.
France, even the US, does not have the ability to strike Assad's CBW "assets" as long as they are using the Russians as human shields. Tartus AFB looks like a Moscow Airshow now, with Russian, Syrian and Iranian heleocopters, strike aircraft, fighters and drones all intermingled on the tarmac and the revetments.
Russian jamming also ensures that while France could strike the Tartus AFB, they wouldn't be able to pick and choose what they hit.
Who's talking about a,major Russian base, he's talking about Syrian targets that are all but abandoned by now, like the one Israel hit without any blowback.
Somewhere a North Korean leader is laughing 😅
He's been laughing his ass off since the end of November, 2016.
It's not that often for the NORK's that their Patron, gets their own Agent, elected POTUS.
