Nikkei Asian Review: Japan's Kono hints at North Korea nuclear activity amid easing tensions

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Foreign Minister Taro Kono suggested Saturday there are signs North Korea is preparing to again test a nuclear weapon, even as tensions on the Korean Peninsula are easing ahead of summit talks between the leaders of the two Koreas.

North Korea appears to be "working hard to get ready for the next nuclear test," Kono said in a lecture in Kochi city, referring to soil removal from the tunnel at the nuclear test site where past tests were conducted.

His remarks may be based on satellite imagery provided by the United States.

As for the possibility of summit talks between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Kono expressed caution over acting hastily to Pyongyang's recent charm offensive.

Prediction: Japanese leaders are making this sh!t up. They are like a puppy desperately wanting attention or worse like a scorned wonan used to abusing their spouse (America in this case) for decades. The abused spouse, in this case America, is showing signs of FINALLY breaking away from this abuse. As such, Japanese leaders feel a need to "act out."

The North Korea/South Korea dispute is primarily between these countries. We (America) are involved because of our enormous and ridiculous investment in South Korea over many decades. China is involved for a number of reasons.

Japan has contributed nothing. The lead parties will involve them at their pleasure and as needed. At present, they have nothing to offer. Suggestion to them: STAY OUT OF IT AND DO NOT F!CK THINGS UP!!

This needs to be fucked up, it's a diversion and play for time.

Perhaps then the Japanese are very wrong, as Postman states, but we are very much involved with Japan since we agreed to protect them after WWII and insisted in return they have but a very very small military force...We do have some 35 thousand troops stationed there. And in the Korean War, 1950, our forces there got sent to Korea. Our presence there and in South Korea has made South Korea one of the dynamic economic nations of the world. Postman seem either unaware of this or perhaps annoyed by this

Well, I have to back Fred up here, because A++ Poster is such a prolific & annoying troll.

The troll learned how to cuss in attempt to make themselves look like a native. It is just the cutest thing!

"The North Korea/South Korea dispute is primarily between these countries."
Yellow flag. Penalty: End of game. Troll forfeits.

pg 228
"The Germans had 2,574 tanks to the Allies 3,254."

"A great proportion of the German panzers (770) were Czech Skodas"

Postman let me do the math for you I do not think they teach math for account trolls.

If you round up, it comes to 30% (.299). NAZI Germany simply would not have waged war against France & Britain without the Skoda works. Atilla the Hun knew how this stuff works. The Germans gave much Czech equipment, 24 to 48 division's worth (it was a large amount and double digit), that they considered substandard (the Germans paid for this at Stalingrad, when the Romanians had crap for equipment), but nonetheless serviceable to their Eastern European allies. I is how tribal alliance and chiefdoms work. Attila would have done the same, would have approved and would have recognized the transaction for what it was.

I have a big problems with pacifists, naysayers, and trolls. Naysayers are ignorant or they unfit by temperament. Trolls on the other hand are there as an active measure to keep a people, a population, from norming and then performing. Oh well if you do not like the weather, it will change. There was Atlanta.

At best A++ crossed the Pacific, which would account for certain things. At worst they are a state sponsored troll.

WNU,
Of course N Korea will and the main audience is to be China. Remember the world believes the N Koreans are sane ie. hold the same world views and ethics the rest of the world, but the evidence supports a completely different set of the above held by the N Koreans.

Fazman,

Perhaps it is a "play for time." We need it. At present, neither the US military nor homeland security are ready for this fight. If fought now, 10s of millions of Americans will die. Australia will be untouched. As such, while your cheer leading is appreciated, you and yours won't feel the effects of this. My family will. As an American, it behooves us to be more circumspect about these things.

Japan is not involved in this. They need to STAY OUT OF IT!! If they f!ck up this diplomatic process, there needs to be h!ll for them to pay!!

Fred,

Many thanks for reminding everyone how South Korea and Japan benefit from the current situatiin. America does not. The nature of that relationship needs to change to fit current realities.

Aizino,

The statement that the dispute here is between North Korea and South Korea is correct. As a number of commentators have pointed out, a resolution to this will ulitmately come about between these parties. We are involved because of our enormous investment in SK. China is involved for obvious reasons. Japan has contributed nothing of value here. They need to SIT DOWN AND STFU!!

Whose the troll here? You would allow these abusive relationships to continue. Myself and a number of Americans will not and, at the very least, will continue to soeak up and speak out against these things.

Very intersting how you jumped off into a topic concerning what appears to be WW2 and then Atilla the Hun. While not relevant to the current topic, it's not surprising you'd do this. Knowing you are unable to win the current argument on its merits you must divert to a new topic.

Whose the troll here? So you want Japan mucking around in a diplomatic process that isn't any of their business potentially screwing it up. There's no upside to this a,ong with much downside risk.

A bit off topic here but a silver lining in all this is Japan is FINALLY beginning to make the proper investments in their military. Imperial Japan of WW2 is not coming back. It's time to move forward.

For better or worse, Japan and South Korea don't have a good history. Involving them right now would be terrible idea. Surely they are aware of this. The fact that they'd act as they are now says allot about them and its not good. If they had such concerns it would have been easy to address this privately with POTUS, his team, and Congress. No need to run to the media.

By supporting such actions you act against America's national security intersts. So ehise the "troll?" Definitely not me. It would seem to be you.

Perhaps the "troll" is neither of us. We simply have differing opinions on the best forward for American national security.

The previous post was mine. Technology is grand when it does what its supposed to do. When it doesn't not so much.

Anon,

Start from here.
"The North Korea/South Korea dispute is primarily between these countries."

Follow the historical examples.

It is not my problem that you make a Downs syndrome baby look smart or that you are not well read.

Not caring about country A (Germany/North Korea) did to country B(Czechoslovakia/South Korea) got us into trouble in WW2. If you cannot follow historical analogies/examples than stick with swapping cat photos.

Hitler was a thug just like Attila the Hun. The 1st rule about thugs is they keep their fellow thugs happy by giving them free stuff while keeping more to themselves than anyone else. If you don't the tribal confederacy, alliance or whatever you want to call it breaks up. Hitler was a 'good' thug. He gave the Czech equipment to his Eastern European allies to keep them happy. He kept the best stuff for himself. I just pointed out this is no different than in tribal times (which we are still not totally out of).

As soon as Attila's tribe had dissension and/or could not deliver spoils, subject people revolted. I have heard it called a 'booty' or 'spoils' economy. Hitler's economy/alliance in the short run was similar to Attila's. It could only be held together with war spoils in the short run.

Without boundaries being advanced or spoils being distributed, countries like Romania would have sat on their hands and not joined his alliance. Without enough allies, Hitler would not have felt strong enough to launch WW2 when he did if ever.

Czechoslovakia & Germany were just 2 countries. Look what happened when we said it is just between them.

What will happen when we said it is just between the Koreas.

Thew Anon I am replying to now and B Poster are part of the same group. I liked how you guys swapped chair and personas. Can't you guys stay in character?

At least make it interesting.
