Trump rows back on prospect of imminent strike as both sides use line set up to prevent clashes

Russia and the US are using a “deconfliction” telephone line for Syria, the Kremlin has said, as tensions mount over the prospect of a US strike on Russia’s Middle East ally.

“The line exists and it is active. In general, the line is used by both sides,” the Kremlin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters.

The US has threatened retaliation after a chemical attack at the weekend on Douma, a town in eastern Ghouta, outside Damascus.

WNU Editor: In the past questions were raised if this hotline was being monitored 24/7. Today .... I suspect that this hotline is not only being monitored 24/7, but multiple people aremonitoring it, and in turn they have a direct line to top commanders and political leaders.

Kremlin's goals have been met so why would they want escalation? The US's goals have been met, the destruction of the ISIS money making operation in Syria and Iraq.

So what's the fuss all about?

US goals have not been met. Their number 1 goal is to take out the Assad regime, Iraq and Libya style. Something they couldn't do due to the Russians.

Thought it was obvious but that's the answer anyway. (Also it's quite tragic you actually think the US's goal is to take out Isis, like....wow, really?)

So why would the US want Assad gone (based on your tinfoil hat theory, please. ..I need to be entertained)

Anonymous # 3,

actually US leadership has stated numerous times that it was/is a goal of US policy to remove Assad. Now, as I have stated numerous times on this website and elsewhere, the removal of Assad was never going to be feasible as the Russians would not allow it. In fact, I patiently pointed this out from the very beginning. When one bases policies and goals on that which is not achievable one meets with a bad ending. I'm getting off topic.

Anonymous # 2,

"Their number 1 goal is to take out the Assad regime, Iraq and Libya style." At this point, I don't think there it is anything like this. I think it is more a case of allowing wide eyed ideologues to set policy. This being combined with some being extraordinarily bitter about the loss of their candidate during the last election and needing to lash out as someone. In this case, they've chosen Russia as their boogeyman and being egged on by their media allies has largely led to our current situation.

I have observed that the hatred toward POTUS has become increasingly irrational and unhinged. IF there were a nefarious goal at work, this would explain allot. Someone who actually wants to make peace with the Russians would be a real threat to someone who has nefarious goals. Such people would no doubt stop at nothing to get such a person as POTUS out of office by any means necessary.

To add to the problem for them, the uppity American people who elected the current POTUS expressed skepticism in larger numbers than ever before as to why we need to escalate military action against Syria over unproven allegations that don't make any sense, would be problematic to prove, and even if they were proved the escalation does not serve any American interests. If this is the case, our current POTUS presents a real problem for such people.
