The Hill: Pompeo, Joint Chiefs chairman challenged Trump plans to withdraw from Syria: report
President Trump clashed with members of his national security team at a meeting to discuss the future of American troops in Syria, CNN reported Wednesday.
CIA Director Mike Pompeo and Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford reportedly warned Trump against pulling U.S. forces out of Syria. Pompeo, who Trump has tapped as his pick for secretary of State, told the president pulling out of the war-torn country would be a mistake.
Dunford asked Trump to explain what he wanted to see happen in Syria, CNN reported.
CNN reported that Trump was annoyed by the pushback, but ultimately agreed to leave U.S. troops there for the time being.

Trump says one thing one day and then told by experts what is a wiser move and so unsure what his position till such time as Putin advises him after which time he will do as he is told...and now for our russian bot to dump his comment in...will his superiors come to realize he is failing at his work and send him to Siberia for re-education?
thought muller was gonna get him last year lol just another pethetic lefty screaming the Russians are coming
Fred must do insults having losing his arguments so badly. He must flail about wildly trying to discredit. Its all he has left.
Now as for the decision on remaining in Syria. I echo the sentiments of the editor. The US is not an empire. There is no mid to long range benefit to remaining. The initial decision on redeploying was/is the correct one. He does seem to have trouble standing up to the generals.
"Russians are coming." Hide Fred hide!! The Russians are after you!! Get away!! Grab your weapon!! Don't talk to your neighbor!! They might be Russian!! Don't drink your tea! The Russians poisoned it!! Anyone who challenges me must be Russian!! After all I am the great infallible Fred Lapidies!! When my arguments are shown to be ridiculous I must try and discredit those who destroy my arguments with logic and facts!! On no!! The Russians are under the bed!! Oh no!! The Russians are monitoring me!! The Russians are coming!! The Russians are coming!! The Russians are coming!!
Okay back to reality. In his talk, DJT points out how much this whole thing costs and the great benefit it is to other countries besides America. Love him or hate him, he does have a gift of accurately getting right to the point of many, many things. In that one sentence he summed about 95% of US "alliances." Now as for Cold War 2, it quite easy to spell even to a child the risks and the costs. No one has spelled out why it is worth it or what the benefit it is. Additionally we have seen the plan put forth by the Pentagon to contain Russia and China. God I hope that is false reporting because if it isn't it shows our military leaders belong in insane asylums and not directing military operations of a major world power. Now when presented with an alternative plan such as team Trump that might actually work to defuse tensions that thus far shows minimal risk with huge upside potential it seems a no brainer to pursue that policy. The premise is sound but it may need a few tweaks along with a POTUS who can and will stand up to the generals.
If the Russians are coming, perhaps it is because some went out of their to inflame tensions. This is NOT to suggest that the Russians are completely blameless, however, our government has had numerous opportunities to take a more nuanced approach that would have toned down tensions or at the very least not raised them along with minimal to no cost in doing so. Not only were those opportunities not pursued but it appears that in some cases actions were taken that actually seem almost designed to raise tensions. On the surface, such actions are unwarranted where there is no upside along with huge downside risks when dealing with a country possessing the power that Russia has especially when there are a number of areas that their assistance would be extremely helpful.
Mr. Lapides and others like him must have their war with Russia, while placing others in danger. Will any of them go to Poland or Ukraine and serve as cannon fodder for these chumps? I didn't think so. After all they love their American cannon fodder!! Perhaps he is trying to wrestle with his inner demons and feels this will exonerate him if those that his ilk commonly refers to as "rubes" are hurt. Only he can answer this.
