Report: US Considering 8 Possible Targets In Syria

CNBC: US considering 8 possible targets in Syria — President Trump says decision coming 'fairly soon'

* President Donald Trump met with his national security team on Thursday to discuss the situation in Syria.
* A final decision on whether or not to use military force has not been made, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said.
* A source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told CNBC the U.S. was considering striking eight potential targets.

There is one missile in the U.S. arsenal that is expected to rain on Syrian targets this week in response to a suspected chemical attack carried out by Syrian President Bashar Assad's government.

The Tomahawk cruise missile is half the length of a standard telephone pole, travels at the cruising speed of a commercial airliner, and can carry a 1,000-pound warhead the distance from New York City to Kansas City.

Tomahawks have been in the U.S. Navy's arsenal since the 1980s, but were first used in combat in 1991 during the Gulf War. Overall, the weapons have been deployed more than 2,300 times.

So it looks like an attack is coming but where ,when and scale is the only question

So is Trump going to give the details of the targets including date and time of day any time soon?

I'm pretty sure any significant military action has been ruled out. As part of the process, the US military may get to do a light show. Helps with face saving I think.

He actually didn't say when, just that it's coming and it is

I'm.pretty sure you're going to see a very heavy strike with genuine consequences for Assad Putin and the coalition

Treason Tribble's gonna twit out all the details, time, place, weapons, tomorrow during the Friday news dump,

But no strikes until after Monday so his boss, Putin, and Assad can prepare.

The big bonus, is he's going to twit out the names and home adresses of all the US Military involved in the strikes, so the Deplorables can harass them online, with death threats.

If you are busy redeploying asset to protect them, your sortie rate goes down and your operational tempo is affected. So for a while, perhaps a very short while, but a while nonetheless, the sky artillery is gone.

So signalling, but waiting until striking has advantage over merely taking taking out a few aircraft and letting the SA smartly getting about business.

But what would the glorified bank clerk know.

If the US is serious about punishing the top guy for gassing people why 8 targets? Why not just one target? Even if he isn't killed it should scare him enough to stop using chemicals.

Bob,

Even if the US wanted to take out the top guy, they don't know where he is and even if they did he is well protected. As such, even if the US knew exactly where he was it would not be able to get anywhere near close enough to him to harm him.

I explained this above. As part of the face saving process, the US may be allowed to a light show of sorts. That's going to be about it.

Most likely there will be no military action. The powers that be have in all likelihood decided to treat Trump and his rhetoric in the same fashion that a drunken patron in a bar is treated. Allow him to cool down and separate him from others if necessary.

With that said something else could be at work. According to some reports Russian forces have taken control of the area of the attack and UN inspectors will be allowed in to do their work. Normally this would be enough to satisfy everyone. In this case, certain crazies want war with Russia so it may not be enough. Trump's supporters can claim the brilliant diplomacy of the dealmaker got Russia moving to take control of the area and create an environment where this could be investigated and we get to avert war for now.

I don't agree with that assessment. As stated, in all likelihood the adults are treating DJT and his twitter rhetoric in the same manner a drunken patron in a bar would be treated. Allow them to cool down, try and restrain them from hurting themselves, and separate them if necessary. The Americans (us) got ahead of themselves. Now the beauty of this is all sides are allowed to save face. While we cannot "know" for certain, I think it is highly likely the back channel of Netanyahu was used effectively.

Again, why only 8 targets? Any of targets of value will be well protected and unreachable by US forces. As part of the face saving process, the US may be allowed to do a military light show of sorts that causes no real damage. Often times during the cool down phase of the drunken barroom patron is allowing him to vent his anger in a controlled environment. This is what is probably at work here.

You asked. Now its been explained to you. Any more questions? Time permitting, i will try and answer.

Aizino,

You may very well raise a valid point. POTUS does have a number of generals on his team. One would think that men who signed on to defend America would have advised him before he said anything about how much time would elapse between a strike and that he would heed their advice. Nevertheless, for now, I stick with my original hypothesis. In all likelihood there will not be a military strike and all parties have been allowed to step down gracefully and as part of the process in order to look good there will be some smack talking coming from our side for a few days. Then again the US military may be allowed to perfume a light show of sorts.

It is about destroying assets that support the regime so that they rethink using gas in the future. What impresses a regime is the amount of air power lost not how many patches of earth that are hit with shrapnel in a fireworks display.

Really JK you walked that dog?
